Acer Aspire 4720Z graphics upgrade question

Hi, I was wondering if it's possible to upgrade my laptop's graphics, because I'm attempting to play a few games on it, and it runs them sooo slow. I don't think the Processor or RAM are an issue, but surely the GFX card is. Another thought I had was maybe upgrading my RAM to 2 GB, which could possibly give it a boost because I think my vid card draws some memory from the system? Thanks a lot!

Ok thanks! And what RAM do I need to get for this laptop?

Edit: Nevermind, I found out I have DDR2 memory after running CPUZ....

But is it the same RAM you would put in a Desktop PC?

And how do I go about getting inside my laptop, never done this sort of thing.

Thank you

One more thing...which mouse do you recommend I use on my laptop for playing games? Right now I have the Logitech V220 Cordless, but I don't like it, it goes where ever it wants to and it isn't good for playing games. I guess you just have to spend a good amount of money on a wireless mouse if you want it to work perfectly. I'm looking for something that isn't killer in price, even if it's a desktop mouse, would be fine..Wired would be even better if I don't wanna spend a lot, so at least it will work properly.

game? stick with a usb mouse! might look funky with the cord, but RELIABLE (for me anyway)

the best for one for me so far is the microsoft wheel mouse optical - the old simple 2 keys with the wheel

cheers ...

Ok sounds good

And will upgrading my RAM surely eliminate my problems of LAG in games?

And is there a difference between Laptop Ram and Desktop Ram?

well not 100% , but it will contribute to a better game experience. Other factors like environment, graphic card performance, hard drive speed can be parts as well

So I replaced the RAM - now I have 2 GB, and the performance increase was minimal...There is absolutely nothing else I can do?? Nothing with a GFX card?? And would installing XP and removing Vista speed things up??

Thanks

it will improve with vista once SP1 comes out and WHEN driver developers get up to speed. In the mean time u can try to review the startup processes and services and disable the ones that r not relating to ur day to day usage

I disabled the majority of the startup processes, but I'm not sure which services I can disable...

under my vista ultimate, i only disabled indexing and windows volume shadowing. uac was another thing that i disabled. other than those, stock vista! loads of "guides" out there to disable many services, but mostly they r "copy" of XP services disabling suggestions (my 2 cents) - so i ignored them

cheers ...
