I own a Sager 8887 using WinXP. I have had no issues with it whatsoever since I've owned it for the last 4 years. Last night, instead of clicking on SHUT DOWN as I have done every time, I spaced and clicked on the STANDBY icon. After it went into that mode, I unplugged it from the wall (it has no battery installed since it died years ago) and closed the lid for the night.
Upon returning from work, I opened the lid and pressed the power button as usual and the laptop fans all came on as always...but it never goes past that. The screen stays shut off...the cooling fans all stay on...the 4 LED lights next to the power button all come on, with the light all the way on the left going off after about 20-30 seconds. The remaining 3 LED lights stay on, the ones that have padlock icons on the for Number Lock, Caps Lock etc. If I leave the laptop alone, it will just stay turned on forever just like that without ever shutting down or having the lcd screen turn on...no WINXP bootup screen, nothing at all. This was the very first time I can recall using the Standby button instead of Shutdown and now I am really hating myself for doing that, even though it shouldn't be acting like this in the first place. Hitting any key on the keyboard has no effect. I have turned it off using the power button and waited for hours then turned it back on with the same results again and again. It just seems to be "stuck" and won't go past the power up point. If ANYONE can help or has this happened to them, please reply and let me know what to do. Like I said, after 4 years...this is the first time I have ever had anything happen like this. Thanks. |

If you read the thread below this one, the exact same thing has just happened to me (and a few others before). On a few occasions (including how I'm writing this post), I've managed to power up by removing the power cable (ie from the port on the back of the laptop, not the wall), turning it on and then reinserting the power, but that doesn't always work. Without a battery, obviously you can't try that...
Nobody seems to have a solution to this, so please keep me updated with your progress. I'm in the UK and sending it to Sager is out of the question Has anyone from PCTorque come across this before?! Please?!?!
