xyan is a n00b, but everyone loves n00bs!
so i've flashed to the x30 bios and my gpu is still down clocking.
can anyone confirm that this bios actually worked for them?

i'm using rivatuner to record my temps and speeds and when my gpu hits 80c it downclocks.

while playing COD 4 i could easily tell something was changing as my framerates were dropping by30-40% periodically.

take a look at this screenshot i snapped it while playing COD. the downclocking noticably tracks with temp.

Get a program called notebook Hardware control just google for it... and install it and under the tab called CPU Speed click on it and set ur performance while plugged in to max performance... when ur playing games it will blow ur fans full blast and keep ur temps down...

I just updated the bios on the m15x. If anyone has any questions feel free to PM me or ask in this thread.

The only difference between the beta Bios and the Public Bios is on the last step in the PDF, your system bios should read, vX30 P3A31

i take it since no one else has posted that this overheating issue is not a widespread failure. the vX30 P3A31 bios is what i'm running and it still down clocks. it was my understanding that the bios was designed to allow the fans to spool faster and thus allow more cooling but at least in my case this wasn't enough.
it also doesn't matter if i run a seperate fan control program as my fans are already spinning as fast as they are allowed, but to no avail.

for anyones curiousity, i sent my 15x back to alienware and i'll post what they come up with to remedy the situation.

A lot of m15x owners from the notebookreview.com site had the same problems as you. Some who had the same problems as you had there problems fixed with the new bios update. Unfortunately not all of them though...

my 15x arrived fresh from the shop today. first thing i did was fire up COD4 and nothing has changed. the gpu still downclocks.

also on an interesting note: an alienware tech left a prime95 cd in my drive. no big deal but if you are trying to investigate a GPU overheating issue running prime is not what you need to use! prime stresses the CPU not the GPU! sure, it may be that they were running prime in conjunction with a graphically intense process.
i got it to spiral into its downclocking frenzy in less than 10 minutes playing COD4. by the way even downclocked that GPU plays COD4 pretty well. i suspect many don't even realize that it is happening.
oh well i guess i gotta go make a phone call...

Are you sure that you aren't running in stealth mode, or power saver mode?

Try calling the ROSWELL crew. Here's the phone number 1-866-ROSWELL. They work weekdays from 9pm-6pm.

Btw, they were the folks who helped me get credit from my m5550 to order my new m15x.
