You are browsing within the review sections of our forums. Content within these sections reflect consumer opinions of laptops. Our admins take the best and most objective laptop reviews and index them here to create a distinct selection of quality reviews with averaged overall ratings. Many of these reviews have benchmarks attached to them which allows for users to compare their laptop's performance with others, and ultimately enables us to provide a sortable list which at a glance show the fastest laptops amongst a variety of applications (gaming, video editing, web browsing, etc...). as per a request, here are some pics of my R61...enjoy

well here's a little review after 3 days of using my R61 at the office and then back home:

After comparing it to my Dell Inspiron 8600 and Compaq laptop, I must say that for 800$, the R61 is a pretty solid puppy. Well built and very corporate. Esthetically, its not the best looking laptop, but then again, its whats under the hood that counts

After having the R61 on my laps for more than 2 hours, I did not feel any heat or discomfort. It was actually still cool to the touch.

Battery life: 2:30h with screen at full brightness, just surfing the internet.
I figure that I can probably get somewhere near the 3 hour mark if I lower everything to minimum usage.

Screen: I have a 1280x800, not the best, but I use my lappy for office work. Desktop publishers and web designers will surely grab the higher screen (if they want to use an IBM) Screen is actually brighter and clearer compared to my Dell, not sure who makes it, but my Dell is a Samsung.

Keyboard: Man I really love this keyboard, doesn't have that cheap sound when typing, a very firm and solid type.

Mousepad: way too small, missing the up/down arrows.

Sound: I enjoy the speakers, they are okay and again, perfect for this type of laptop.

Graphics: nVidia NVS 140m, what can I say. it displays well and playing spider looks great . I'm not a gamer, so it'll be hard to tell

Ports: I find that the unit is missing USB ports. Also having all the connection on each side is not where I would want them. I always prefered the back of the laptop to connect external peripherals. But that's just me

One thing that I did notice though, though the laptop is built solid. At the sametime it has a bad finish. Take for example the palm rest, even though there are 4 screws holding it down, it still lifts slightly. The sides of the screen seem to be badly finished also. Running your hands along the sides, you can actually lift the plastic cover.

My overall score would be 7/10, that's because there's so much junk from IBM pre-installed. This is my first IBM and I am sure it won't be my last.

So those looking to purchase the R61, here's a summary:
Great corporate look. Perfect for So/Ho. Good battery life. Acceptable graphics. Not heat issues. If your looking to get a laptop for office/home use, I would highly recommend the R61.

thanks for reading my personal review and thoughts
