Just got off their site and saw it!!! Definitely interested but I'll be honest, I wish they would've went with the traditional skull cap look instead of the Ripley design. There's a vid on youtube (bout 30 sec long) showing what appears to what must've been an early prototype for the M17X. It looks just like the Ripley M15X, with the shiny silver, but instead of being smooth, it had the traditional looking "alien" (skull cap?), back panel.

I really think that looks alot better than what they've just released but, it's just an opinion of course!

Gonna now wait and see what the reviews say about this new machine and see if there are any inherent problems like the M15x had.

Glad that Alienware finally got it out the door!!!!!

Was wondering though: will the top of the line extreme processor, that Alienware is offering in this lappy, be faster/more powerful than the Duo Quad Q6700 cpu that is in the Sager/Clevo model?

Of course it's going to use more power since it's a desktop cpu but, lets be honest, who's buying this beast for battery performance???

Kind of makes this new M17X a little less enticing to me.

I hate that you have to get dual 8800 cards instead of just getting one...

I agree, if it were a silver skull cap I would proably be ordering one. The black ripley doesn't do much for me. I guess I'll keep the m9700 for a while.

Am I wrong or is that a Clevo design? It looks like one from what I see and Clevo is one of the few that puts four to five USB ports on their machines.

I can live with the ripley but give me some colors AW please!!

Nahhh. I think it's very nice, but I'd prefer the m15x. My feelings are still hurt that Alienware messed up my order when I ordered the m15x on Day 1 *, so I've been holding off. (Plus, I really don't need another notebook ... I use my MacBook Pro for everyday use, and the m9700 is still smokin' hot for gaming).

*Alienware bent over backwards to sort out the issue with my original m15x order, but by then the thrill of ordering on Day 1 was gone and I returned to my senses about getting another notebook. BUT, I still think it's a winner!

Just watched that alienware network video and that guy on the right specifically said that they ARE in fact, planning on bringing the silver look to the m17x and, they are also working on the skullcap design. YES!!!!

I'm waiting to see how those turn out. "All good things come to he who waits", or so they say. We'll see....

Agreed. No single 8800?? I guess anyone wanting a single video card with a 17" screen will go Sager. I also just configured one, and the same Sager (same OS, memory, HD, screen) but with a quad core was $400 cheaper.
