Laptop Battery/Power Adapter question
Hello,
I am having a problem that i posted fullyover in another forum, but one thign that was suggested i thought you might be able to help with: My laptop wont power up and after beign told it was a fried motherboard, i replaced to no avail. i was then told that some laptops will not work without a functioning battery in it, or that having to wiggle or push on the powercord (Which if i do this it does power up) that it might indicate only intermittent power getting to the laptop/battery. Are either of these statements accurate? Is there any set way to determine if either of these are correct? i just replaced the power adapter but it did not resolve anything. If i am only getting intermittent power with a new mother board and a new power adapter would it indicate that the power adapter is maybe the wrong voltage or watts or soemthing? any information you could provide would be really appreciated. thanks! |

Two possibilities immediately come to mind.
1. A broken power connector on the motherboard. The solder on underside of the motherboard can break and you can end up with a loose connector. Since this is a new motherboard I'd hope this would not be the case. 2. A power supply with a broken wire in it. However the odd thing is that you have replaced both of the problem components mentioned above. Are you sure the replacement power supply matches the specifications of the original? Like you said you could be getting insufficient voltage to the laptop. Patrick http://www.batteryfuel.com

Hi Patrick,
I guess the correct powercord is definitely a concern. I searched the internet and found one that said it was a replacement for my model number. While the power cord replacement has Input at 100-240v, and the original said 160v. Altho I am not sure that the original was truly and "Original" its an Alienware laptop, but the powercord adapter said: LiteOn. However, the response I am getting is the same for both powercords. Thats why i am truly confused! thanks jami |

LiteOn is going to be am OEM compatible model like the Hi-Capacity (Brand) that we sell. It is likely that LiteOn also makes the power supply that originally ships with some laptops.
Any progress on this?
