Caring for your laptop battery.

Batteries are surprisingly fragile, and at the cost of laptop batteries it is important to care for appropriately. Doing so can extend their life, and save you money.

When removing the battery from the laptop do so with care. Should a component be broken in the battery it could lead to the damage of the battery, as well as the damage of the laptop. It is important to read the manual thoroughly and to understand how to insert, and remove the battery from the computer.

When using an extra laptop battery allow charge to be left within the battery. The battery should never be left without charge while out of use.

To store your extra laptop battery, wrap in a protective covering and ensure that nothing is going to be dropped, or spilled on the battery. Keep it in a cool, dry area at room temperature to maintain the optimal amount of life within the battery.

Keeping the battery in the laptop on, while plugged into an electrical outlet can decrease and harm the life of the battery. This leaves the battery in a constant state of charging and can decrease the life of the laptop battery significantly. This is also not good for the laptop.

Reinstall the battery into the computer every four weeks to maintain battery health, and battery life.

Using a surge protector could save the battery, as well as the computer from harm. Make sure than an uninterrupted source of power is used at all times to minimize risks.
