Acer brightness control keeps defaulting to 0%

Hi

I don't know what has happened or if someone changed something but every single time I change the brightness control to 100% 2 seconds later it goes back to 0%. This is even when it is plugged in or has a full batter.

Even when i switch to that has brightness set to like 80% nothing happens. I went to maxium preformace profile and for some reason it is set to 0% when I change it to 100% and hit apply 2 seconds later it changes back to 0%.

Out side of windows(ie the login screen) I can change my brightness to 100% and it will stay there it's when I login it reverts to 0%.

I have the acer aspire 5100 laptop. Is there anyway someone could have changed something that makes this happen?

MichelleG has all your base
for the settings to stay, try this.

go to the default profile, should have a checkmark next to it. Make your changes to the profile. Then, save that profile as something else. Once it is saved it will revert to what it was.

Then change your profile to the one you just created. Then apply, and it will then be the default.

when you change a profile and then hit apply without saving it will revert to the original settings.

Solution?

Did anyone find a 100% effective solution to this problem? I've read so many people have had it with Acer 5100 that it has been suggested that it is a defective model of laptop.

I'm at my wits end emailing back and forth to Acer technical support. They want me to send my laptop to them and charge me $129 to repair the backlight which is obviously not the problem.

Any updates would be greatly appreciated.

My Aspire 5735-6694 has the opposite problem. My brightness default is about 45 pct, but goes to 100 pct when videos are played, which is very annoying. Then after a few minutes (when you've adjusted to the brighter screen) it returns to the 45 pct setting.
