Hi,

I was wondering if anybody here could help me pick the right Lenovo model for my work needs.

My main usage of the laptop would be development, which involves a lot of very intensive compile times (which can take up to 20 mins of my current workstation) and Visual Studio usage. I definitely need a big screen in order to fit as much code and windows asI can, although I might end up dualscreening the machine through external monitors. Thus anything with a large resolution or a 15" or 17" (even better) screen is a plus. I would also be running Server 2008 x64 on it.

I will be using tons of productivity software, so anything from Powerpoint, to Excel to Outlook to Terminal Services too, so it's also somethign else to keep in mind.

At the same time I need it to have a very decent battery life so I can leave for a meeting that can last maybe up to 5 hours and still have enough battery life to do work so I don't have to drag the cables behind. Also the weight isn't a huge concern but it'd be certainly nice to to have to haul a brick around all day

PS: how replaceable is ram in Lenovos? If I order one, I'd prefer to order the minimum ram available and then just get a couple of 2x2gb sticks off newegg and stick those in, because they're much cheaper that the ones you can get through the lenovo build your own notebook site. Does anybody know if the ones they use are standard sized or if it' some custom in-house model?

go with the thinkpad x300. take a look at the 64bit os, check out what kind of softwares you are gonna use and see the compatibility with 64bit os. that is the fastest laptop you can get for business. very very easy to change the rams. on the bottom of the laptop, you will see the M on a small cover. unsrew it, you will see the rams. ground yourself. take them out and replace them.

32bit os only can take 3GB rams. the 64bit os's reaction is so F king fast

im not a big tech geek here but im not sure if x300 would be a big enough screen size. its small and runs windows xp so the battery life can be longer but i think it only 13.3". I would much recomemd a T400/T500 or even a T60/T61. Im not sure about T61 but i think T60 only goes up to 3gb ram max. but screen size for these can go up to about 15".
