Question Asus N50vn and Windows XP

Hi people.
I got my new N50Vn some days ago. I don't like Vista that much and wanted to install XP Professional on it.
So I wiped the disk and installed XP SP3 with all recent updates. No Problem. Also most of the drivers that come with the notebook or are downloadable from Asus work for XP too. Exceptions/Problems are:

- HD Audio. Ths is Azalia (Intel HD Audio) compatible and supposedly a Realtek chipset. So downloaded the Realtek HD Audio driver R2.07 and it installed just fine. BUT I HAVE NO SOUND. Neither speakers nor Headphone jack output any sound... Is this the wrong driver?!

- Webcam. I have 2 different drivers (2 possible usb webcam models) that should work for XP too, but I can't find ANY webcam devices to install drivers for in the device manager... What can I do?

- The media keys above the keyboard are working after installing the ATK0100 ACPI driver. Volume keys are ok, but the other keys (play/pause etc.) try to start a Windows Media Player installation, which I'm not very keen on... Can I configure them to use another application?
There are some more keys above the keyboard if you toggle them into a different mode (the white ones). How do get them to work?

Ideas and hints would be welcome

cheers

Kim

Sometimes all you need to do for sound is restart after you installed the driver.

Try looking for unknown devices to find the webcam. if you don't have a driver for it, Windows won't know what it is.

Thanks for replying. I figured some stuff out now:

- The sound chip is a Realtek ALC 663 HD audio chip (Vendor ID 0x10EC, PID 0x0663). The drivers were correct (Realtek HD audio driver R2.07).
The real Problem was that I had the startup sound disabled in the BIOS settings. You need to set startup sound to YES in the BIOS and the volume to 0 if you don't want that anoying beep when the notebook starts up... Sounds stupid, but that's how it worked.

- The webcam was already installed with some default driver. But I found the device and the Chicony (2MP) driver worked.

The media key problem is still there though...

At one point, I remember someone came up with a way to reassign the media keys to Winamp instead of Media Player, but that was a while ago. I don't remember the method and don't know if it would work on newer models.

I had a similar Realtek HD Audio problem. I solved it by first disabling the MS UAA Bus Drivers, then deleting them. Do not restart yet. Then install the Realtek HD drivers. Now restart, reload the UAA Drivers. Then I had audio.
