9262 Question
Is everyone still happy with their 9262?
More importantly, does anyone regret getting a 9262 instead of the 5797 or the 5796? The most important thing for me is to be able to run Autocad Architecture 2008 or 2009 (ACA) with no problems. It is a huge resource hog - more than any other application I use on a daily basis. ACA has crashed every high-end desktop I have ever owned or used at work (some of these workstations were over $3500 and built specifically for Autocad Architecture). I need to run this along with outlook, firefox, photoshop, other adobe apps, itunes, excel, word, and various other applications on and off. I need to use all these apps at the same time, I cannot be opening and closing some apps to run others. I will be using Vista 64 even though I think I like XP 64 better. Does anyone know if I can do this on a 5797 or the 5796 fully loaded? I own a 8890 and remember what a pain it was when I had to port that thing around on a daily basis. Typically I don't, but I know there will be 10 months coming up where I will have to carry it to a job site and back home everyday (walking). Any input would be much appreciated. Happy Thanksgiving USA people. |

I'm not familiar with the software you mentioned but I can tell you that if you equip the NP9262 with a fast quad core CPU it will be the fastest option available for running any software in a 17" notebook.
I don't know if 3D graphics cards are a requirement for that ACA software but the nVidia Quadro FX3700M 1,024MB graphics card that is optional with the NP9262 is designed for professional 3D applications such as CAD. For about $3200 you could get a NP9262 with a high resolution WUXGA screen 1920x1200, the nVidia Quadro FX3700M, an Intel Core 2 QUAD Q9650 3.0GHz w/ 12MB L2 Cache on a 1333MHz FSB, 4GB DDR2 800, and a single 320GB 7200rpm hard drive. This would perform nearly as well as a similarly configured desktop system and will significantly outperform any other mobile solution you can buy today. It will outperform the 5796 in any configuration. You could also add a second identical hard drive and configure it in a RAID0 for seriously fast disk access time or even install a SSD. This beast will hold up to three internal hard drives. It's also a stylish, somewhat spartan and rugged design that looks more professional and less like a toy or a gaming computer than other 17" notebooks. I own one myself and travel with it a couple times a week. It's heavy but in my experience it's no less portable than the 57xx series computers or any other 17" notebook. It fits in the same Targus bag that I used for my Sager 5720 that I upgraded from. Yes you will get a workout but that's not a problem for you is it? ;-)

Thanks for the input.
I am still wondering if I can run ACA on the 5797 or the 5796. I guess I don't mind the extra weight, but it would be nice to have a smaller machine. |

It's not really smaller. They're both 17" notebooks and have identical footprints. The 9262 is heavier and thicker. They will both take up the same desk space and both fit into a 17" Targus shoulder carrying case. The 9262 will simply give you a better workout.

What do you want to know? If it will run or how well it will run?
Yes it will run. It will not perform as well. It really depends on how the software is optimized for dual or quad cores and if it is highly CPU or GPU dependent and how much it depends on disk access speeds and memory latency and bandwidth. The publisher would probably have details on that information.

Yes, I want to know how well it will run. Any of the machines (especially the way I will order them) will run the app in question. Here are the requirements:
http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet...112&id=8951062 I was hoping to find someone who had experience using ACA on one of the laptops I asked about. I am going to try a post in their forum and see what turns up. Thanks for your help. |
