XP Service Pack 3 install issues

Does anyone know if there are any driver/softare/firmware updates that are required to install XP SP3? I've tried just about everything to get it to load, but it keeps coming up with the 0x0000007E error. I've contacted Microsoft and this is the first thing they're pushing to install it.

By the way, if you install it and your system doesn't boot, DON'T DO ANYTHING RASH!! Just boot in Safe Mode, go to Start/Control Panel/Add-Remove Programs and uninstall Service Pack 3! I formatted before I knew this was recoverable

I feel like an @$$ sometimes !

I had the same problem. I contacted Sager support, and the tech I spoke to told me to take out the modem. Since I wasn't using the modem any longer, I did as he instructed and service Pack 3 installed fine. I guess WinModems are dead as far as Microsoft is concerned.

There's also a problem installing SP3 on some machines with AMD processors, since a flaw in the coding makes SP3 run Intel-specific commands on them, which causes a bluescreen.
