December 3, 2008 - Activision Blizzard has revealed Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, sequel to Infinity Ward's award-winning first-person shooter.
According to MTV Multiplayer, the publisher revealed the game at a Massive Inc. upfront held in Manhattan, NY. These upfront events typically allow publishers to display their games to advertisers.
While little is known of the game, MTV reports that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is coming out sometime this fall.

UK, September 16, 2008 - Activision has confirmed that Infinity Ward will be returning to the Call of Duty franchise, and will be behind the sixth instalment that's due for release in 2009.
Call of Duty is currently in the hands of Treyarch, who previously worked on the third game and are taking the first person shooter back to WWII with the forthcoming World at War. There's still no news on where the next game will be set, and though Infinity Ward is thought to be at work on a futuristic science fiction shooter, it's more likely that this is the touted new IP for the company rather than the introduction of ray guns to the series.
Though we could be wrong – feel free to be equally speculative in the comments field below.

Nothing much so far but I am really looking foward to this game. COD World at war sucked as far as I am concerned. I am looking forward to IW taking the lead again.

Infinity Ward Teases Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 on Twitter
This could be the first semi-official confirmation of Modern Warfare 2 coming from Infinity Ward.
By Dustin Quillen, 02/05/2009
Even though they technically already unveiled the project to in-game advertisers back in early December, Activision has been playing coy about the existence of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 for quite a while now. They could be putting a stop to the silent treatment pretty soon, though, because Giant Bomb caught this illuminating Twitter post from Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling:"Reviewing some radio-chatter VO we just finished recording for Modern Warfare 2 today. 'Cujo Two-One this is Vulture, solid copy on all.'" Whether this was an honest slip-up or a cruel and deliberate smokescreen, there's your first semi-official confirmation of the next Call of Duty from Infinity Ward. Was there ever any doubt?
