11.6" Acer Aspire Possibly On The Way

According to Macles, Acer is set to release another model in it's Aspire One line with a screen of 11.6 inches. The new display will have a resolution of 1366x768, that's a 16:9 ratio. Other changes from the previously released 10.1" model include Atom Z530 (over the N270), SCH USW15S chipset (over the 945GSE) and integrated GMA500 graphics (over GMA950).

Power consumption is also decreased by a fair amount due to some of these hardware changes which offsets and then some the increase usage of the larger screen, net result is increases battery life to between 4 hours (standard battery) and 8 hours (high capacity battery).

I like the new form, but it is disappointing with the step back in the GMA gpu family.

This new screen size can probaly play a factor in the acceptance of the product; coupled with the battery life.

cheers ...

Anyone else notice there's a bunch of weird sized LCD notebooks being released lately?

15.6", 18.4" and so on....?

I guess it is the best way at the moment for the manufacturers to expand the screen resolution without breaking their bank, and using current chipset that they have.

cheers ...

Macles at least seems more excited than dismayed about the iGPU actually.

The GMA500 is actually a rebranded PowerVR SGX 535 licensed from Imagination Technologies and features hardware decoding of H.264 and a few other codecs.

I read that part, but the core is still the same. And when comparing with the GMA950, the GMA500 is quite sub-part in many tests.

Saying that, I would be happy to "see" improvements of the comp, when taking in the whole set-up (chipset, cpu, gpu).

Maybe they should leave the GMA500 out of the specs, or make it a bit invisible, as this would turn away many users right off the bag.

cheers ...

Someone else here posted its to incorporate standard HD resolutions such as 1920 x 1080 instead of 1920 x 1200. Not sure and don't care too much at the particular moment.
