Holy crap those are nice looking notebooks. You should write reviews for them all. Earn credits!

NecessaryEvil has a few people on his/her side.
I'd be more than happy to do reviews of them, but I don't know how much people would like them. I'd even toss my old HP DV9548US in there for good measure. I could probably even review (in absentia) the EEE 701, as I have plenty of pictures of it, and even put a touchscreen put in it. The pair of R60's would be simple enough to do as well. I could give hindsight reviews of a lot of units...but I can't give fresh reviews.

With exception the 1651 which I just built a month ago, all the others have had major upgrades done to them, and don't run manufacturer-supplied OS images. (the 1651 was a barebones which had nothing)

It would have to be a current/unit status review, instead of an out of the box review. I mean, here's what's been done to them:

T61p:
tossed the 80gb and 1gb it came with. (well, gave my wife the 80, mother in law the 1gb)
upgraded to 200gb 7200rpm primary drive
upgraded to 4gb RAM
wiped the OEM installation, installed VB64
stuck 320gb in ultrabay.
pulled the 200gb and put in an OCZ Core v1
pulled the OCZ Core v1 and bought an intel X25-m
swapped 200gb and 320gb

NC10:
Pulled the 1gb RAM. Sold the 1gb
Added 2gb RAM
Wiped OEM installation, installed VHP32
Pulled the 160gb, put in the OCZ Core V1
Pulled the 802.11G Atheros, put in an intel 5100

The MS-1651
I swapped the 802.11G Atheros with my wife's DV9548US's 4965AGN
I put in the 200gb from the T61p, then decided to swap things around so the T61p could have a faster VMWare drive, my external would be the 320 that was in the T61p's ultrabay adapter, and ended up with the NC10's 160gb drive in the MS-1651
bought 4gb of RAM off Newegg
bought a used Core 2 Duo T7250 off of [H]
Used a spare copy of Vista Home Premium 64 bit, and experimented with Win7, Ubuntu, Fedora, and Mint 6.

I guess I could just make them 1 year later, 6 months later, and new-ish reviews. If you guys would still like me to write some up, I'd have no problems doing so.

That's okay. I bet they would all be interesting write ups. And most laptop gurus love hearing about upgrades and mods.

Nice comparison photos.

I was between getting a netbook, an older used laptop (like a thinkpad), and an MSI MS-1651 barebones, and this really puts the sizes into perspective. I'll probably be going with the MS-1651.

Hi You look like you know what you are doing with laptops. I have the opporutnity to purchase a MSI VX600 for $600.00 320GB 15.4"screen. Is MSI a decent brand? Your advice or anyone else's is greatly appreciated.

MSI is more than a decent brand

Take a look here at their European main site, navigate through their products and just have a feel for yourself. Sorry, description is not all in English.
