Unhappy Alienware 51M 7700 Inverter cable

I recently replaced my LCD screen and the inverter stopped working (no back light). I bought a new inverter and in the process of unplugging the 12-pin connector, the brittle connector plastic broke up in several pieces. Does anyone have a contact for a supplier of these cables? I tired googling but no luck.

Crumbling cable connectors to inverter board

Wow... this does not bode well for me.

My sister brought me her AlienWare D9T with dead backlight, we found an inverter on eBay but I can't get the 12 pin connector off. The small 2 pin similar to the 12 pin crumbled when I was taking it out, now the 12 pin is falling apart as I try to take it out.

I've been an electronics tech for over 20 years, connectors are not new to me. I've never seen such a low-quality connector.

The socket on the board that is being replaced and tossed out is very robust. The connector on the cable that I require is crumbling like an old cookie.

Is that cable available anywhere? Any suggestions for how to remove it without it falling apart?

Otherwise, my solution is probably going to be to just remove it as it crumbles, plug the wires into the new inverter PCB one at a time, then artfully put some hotglue holding the wires in place, being careful not to get glue into the connections.

Naturally I've already written down the wire colors.

Thanks!

I did finally get the connector out with only minor damage. But I have the same problem- still no backlight.

Yes, and I can barely see what is on the screen, more so when I point a flashlight into the screen.

How often do the fluorescent tubes go out in these?

Hard to say. Some last until the LCD dies, some right of the bag.
There are backlight for sales you know, and instruction as how to replace them.

cheers ...
