New X200s with SL9600 - official or not?

Hi All

Looking to buy X200s, with the SL9400 1.83GHz, however prior to ordering i found a new X200s with the SL9600 2.13GHz on the internet. Unfortunately, it didn't exist on the Lenovo website, but funny enough i have a quote offering the below specs. Is this spec real or fake?

PN# 74698EB
SL9600/6M/2.13GHz C2D;
2G DDR3 Memory, 2G Intel Turbo Memory,
320GB/7.2Krpm, Gigabit Ethernet;
12.1"WXGA+ LED B/L, No Cam, Intel X4500, Intel
5300 AGN(3x3), BT, FPR, Card Reader, 6 cell battery.

Any information is very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Are we talking about Tablet PC? The only thing I heard about this is that this configuration, with the SL9600, is being offered OUTSIDE U.S.A., in Canada to be precise. So the specs offered can be very true. Make sure you have a confirmation first before buying.

cheers ...

Thanks qhn!

The configuration is for the normal X200s. I will definitely confirm the specifications before I buy - wish me luck. Will share my experience once I get the PC.

Cheers & thanks for the tips!

Wow.... Great news haf! I'm still waiting for mine to arrive - apparently it's still in transit and will arrive this week Friday. Will installing Vista 64bit better improve the performance on the already super machine or just leave it at 32bit? Can't wait till it arrives - hope it worth it!

Though I worried about leaving XP 32 bit comfort zone, I had them install Vista 64 and really this makes big applications really speed by. Very happy with the 64 bit. It does take some Googling to find 64 bit versions of trusty old 32 bit apps, but many are out there.

Thanks for the tip! Herm!

I will definitely take a look at 64bit apps before the laptop arrives so i can install everything when it arrives. But I need to wait another 2 weeks before the 64bit Vista arrives as they are out of stock. So need to live with 32bit first.

Not enjoying the waiting game - so frustrated!!!

Cheers for your reply...

matti is a n00b, but everyone loves n00bs!
my X200s has finally arrived (2 days late) however a little disappointed in as they forgot my 5-1 media card reader however, apart from the slight mishap (hope it will be resolved quickly) - i have 1 important question to ask and i know it's a little late but. how do i check whether i got a roll cage technology for my laptop or not?

in addition, i have problems below!

1. bluetooth not working - how do i check whether it is working; and
2. the on screen displays for changing volume is not displayed on screen when using the buttons! it's right at the taskbar - i just about see a green dot which appears for 2-3 secs when i press the volume buttons...

any advice is appreciated!

For the "roll cage technology" you might have to open the comp apart to be sure that "the ThinkPad laptop’s system board is built with magnesium roll cage innovation, a spill-resistant drain system, high-quality plastic epoxy for system strength, and stainless steel display hinges for tough anchoring. Second, the ThinkPad laptop’s robust hard disk drive is built with rubber rails for shock protection, a metal protection plate, shock-absorbing feet, and an airbag-equivalent Active Protection System."

Bluetooth - an on/off switch?

OSD - I am not familiar with it, check the manual is the first thing I would do.

Looking forward to more inputs from your experiences, and a review.

cheers ....

thanks qnh! i think i'll give it a miss in taking my x200s apart - at least for now. assuming that i have most of the features mentioned,

"a spill-resistant drain system, high-quality plastic epoxy for system strength, and stainless steel display hinges for tough anchoring. Second, the ThinkPad laptop’s robust hard disk drive is built with rubber rails for shock protection, a metal protection plate, shock-absorbing feet, and an airbag-equivalent Active Protection System." (qhn)

can i assume that i have roll cage technology with my computer! it would be nice to confirm as i would be getting my money's worth!

i checked the bluetooth and it works now, the driver wasn't installed correctly, a reinstall did the trick!

for the osd, i looked at the manual however couldn't find anything that could help solve my problem. i think i will try updating a few drivers and programs to see if it will help!

thanks again!

oh btw! is there a way to check whether i have led backlight for my display?

:-) You need to open the comp up if you want to verify what the system specs as advertised are.

Same thing with the led lit lcd, the missing of an inverter would tell.

You just have to accept what Lenovo states in their sale pamphlet of your system. And I would believe them.

Enjoy your new system, it is a great machine.

cheers ...

thanks again, qhn!

i guess i need to trust lenovo and accept what i have is what they say!

i will get to setup my system over the weekend the way i like it and probably play with a few things, but it won't be perfect until i get my vista 64bit disc in a couple more weeks time... will try to give some feed back!

cheers again!!!
