Slow Vista on laptop

I have a Toshiba Satellite with 1G of RAM and I'm having a lot of slow down, sometimes it waits for 30 seconds doing nothing. The strange thing is during this time the cpu usage is hovering around 10%, but it's still really really slow. My physical memory usage says it's around 80% most of the time.

Any tips? Please let me know if you need more information.
Thanks,
Mike

1gigo ram on Vista is a bit low. Try disabling un-needed startup processes and services? Try disabling disk indexing? Any defrag utilities in background? Antivirus?

cheers ...

I'll try disabling what you mentioned after work today.

Not sure about background defrag.. but I am running AVG anitvirus. When it is scanning, my computer becomes pretty much unusable. I stop the scan if it happens when I'm trying to use it.

AVG is known having adverse issues with system performance since 8.xx version

I replaced it with Avast and it helped greatly. You might want to try that also.

cheers ...
