LifeBook P series P5020 Harddrive cable?

Hello
I've been trying to upgrade a harddrive on this laptop. I imaged the old harddrive via the laptop to a new 320gig hd. The imaging went over no issue, but it boots to no operating system found from the new hd. I put in the old drive same thing.

I hook up both drives to my main computer and I can see the data fine.
I went into the bios and I notice that it does detect the old drive, but the name of it is very odd. It says Bujitsu then numbers and random !!! points.
I put in the new drive which is a WD and it says western digital, but it has some random characters after it.

Is this a bad harddrive ribbon cable? It was working perfectly fine though. It is kind of a odd thin cable.

Basically I was wondering if anyone else had this problem with this laptop and how did you resolve it?

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Happy 4th of july

I am not sure if your comp can support (see) any drives that are more than 120gb. I would put it at between 60-80 as the safe bet.

cheers ...

Hey thanks for the reply. Yeah you're correct that about the drive,in the bios it only sees the 320 as 137gig so their is a limitation.
As for the cable It appears the cable is bad. If I turn the comp on without the drive inside the bay and have the cable straight it is detected properly an boots into xp.

Once I put it in the bay it reverts back to it reading it improperly.
I dislike those type of ribbon cables.

Seems like you have determined that it is a bad cable. Cool. It does go bad with time and all the heat inside the drive compartment.

Let us know how it goes with a replacement, and share some pics.

cheers ...
