windows firewall

would you solely rely on windows firewall to protect you, or would you want a security suite to do it for you?

i have vista home premium.

It depends. Are you behind a router?

I've heard that Windows Firewall is pretty good, but since I'm using McAfee Firewall, I don't personally use it (as it's not recommened to have 2 firewalls running at the same time because of conflicts) and if I just wanted Windows Firewall I wouldn't be able to deactivate the other one - that option is not available.

Personal preference = Windows Firewall + Defenders + Avast + Spyware Blaster

I believe in protection. I've seen what people can do if they want to get "in" and I found it downright scary.

Without naming brands, I'm sure there are better firewalls than what comes stock with Windows, just as there are better defrag programs than what comes stock with Windows...

I think that it's just not a priority application for MS so attention to detail isn't as good as it should be. I just ran Windows defrag in Windows 7 RTM and it isn't bad at all...

I've got McAfee defrag set up for a monthly defrag....not quite sure how long it takes, suppose it depends on what stuff you've got on your comp., I think it's one of those things that operate even when the comp. is on -sleep-, because I don't like having too many things such as scans running at the same time. As Microsoft says "certaing things just don't play well together".

MB67 I really like your Avatar - cool !!!

Thanks. I just recently moved to Hawaii so I thought it only fitting to get a Hawaiian-themed avatar.

Actually Vista and W7 defragmentation tool is just fine. Most 3rd party defraggers are likely to be from the XP days preference more than anything else. I think.

cheers ...
