Hello
I am trying to find out couple of things I currently have the M17x from last year, and am considering upgrading to the new one from this year (I like the way the new one looks, plus I want the new Geforce style chip video card etc). However my question is this, are the fans just as loud as they were on the M17x from last year, and is the new one also rather slow with Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit, last years is. At the same time, as for the weight, are they about the same weight? or is the new one lighter? Thank you Mark |

Hello i cant say anything about the fans as i have neither heard the area 51 M17X nor the M17X.
as for vista...The new one comes with a 64 bit vista and a coupon for windows 7. Personally i am going to get windows 7 as soon as i can. i already have the beta on my work computer and it really is great. that whole vista suckage thing...its (for the most part) gone. how it would work for a 32 bit OS i again am not sure on. but IMO if it can run a 64 bit OS why go to 32? as for the weight... according to the specs I found your computer is about 10.7 LBS and the M17X starts at 11.7 so it will be about a pound or so more.

The new one ROCKS!

I can not wait to get it I did not get the Core2Quad Extreme CPU however, I got the Core2Duo 2.8 (I have a desktop I built recently, that has the Core2Quad Extreme). I am very excited about the new one, I got the red one. As for the video card I only got the 1 gb 260 card. (spoke with couple of Alienware reps/developers at Blizzcon 09 and they said that additional cards for SLI makes no sense unless I was going to use this as main gaming rig) Mark |
