White screen on Inspiron 1720

The screen on my beloved Dell Inspiron 1720 just went dead, I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas.

When I turn on the laptop, for a brief moment the Dell logo displays correctly, and then the whole screen turns completely white. The back light is working, it just lights the whole screen white. The external monitor jack works just fine, and I'm using the laptop to type this message, though with an external monitor.

It has the Intel 965 graphics chip.

Any ideas?

if your not under warranty, I would start by re-seating the video cable for the internal display

Replacing the cable would be the next step, and they are usually fairly cheap as well.

Thought I'd post an update: I think the monitor apart, which was pleasantly easy, checked all the cables, no improvement. So I bought a replacement screen on ebay for $100. Now everything works.

The new screen isn't quite as bright as the original, but such is life.
