Old 5680 Power Issues - Advice Please
In the last couple of weeks I've run into a problem turning on the laptop. It turns on, loads Windows then turns off. It did that a couple of times, so I went into Safe Mode and was able to get on and stay on. I found a couple some Malware and Virus, cleaned those up and reloaded Windows. It worked fine but the same thing happened the next day. Went through the same process. So then it worked fine for a couple of days and now it did it again, except for this time I didn't go into Safe Mode and just hit the power button a second time and it's on. What do you think is the problem? Power adapter, battery, something big? Please help if you can. Thanks for your time.

Giving that it is an old notebook, I recommend first running a defrag, cleaning up unneeded apps.
Try also cleaning out the vents. cheers ...

Thanks for your reply. I did all of that too. I know it's old, but I really love this laptop and I was hoping to find a solution or at least an idea of what may be wrong. I can't afford to buy a new one. Thanks again.
Anybody else have an idea? Please.

I picked up a returned laptop power supply brick.
Mine failed about a month ago. The new one does not have compatible connectors - yet. Edit: see my post. The failure was internal, probably overheating blew off some solder on the board. Resoldered, found the blown fuse (see my other post on this) and it works now. Last edited by rubber_bunny; 11-15-2009 at 11:51 AM. |
