Hey, I was in a similar situation with you with the M1710, they tried the whole Studio XPS 16 inch screen crap too. Luckily after battling them since September 23rd my Alienware will arrive by 3pm today via Fedex overnight! Woo...
I was thinking about calling them and asking for them to send me another power brick. When I first bought the M1710 I ordered and extra one (for like $100) which is now of course obsolete. Think I'll get it? Also, I'm getting a single 260m, can I just purchase another 260m and plop it in (with some work I know) and have it good to go with the SLI enabled graphics? I've been reading mixed posts on that... |

Yes, you'll need the second card, sli cable and heatsink. Dell probably sells it as a kit. If you buy it through Dell they will warranty it with your system.

I know, I could probably leave and just tell them I have stuff to do, but I start my new consulting contract in Decemeber and I want to make sure everything is ok here incase the new gig falls through.

You know, I've been doing a lot of thinking. Since dell promised me some free upgrades, I have been thinking and thinking about what to ask them for. I thought about:
1. Blue Ray Drive = NO; I never watch movies on my computer, and if I were to watch Blue Ray, I would watch them on my Big Screen. Not to mention installing one of these things requries taking my computer apart, and I don't want to do that AT ALL. 2. Second hard drive for Raid 0 = NO; its a pain in my butt, and if anything, I would want a single 256GB SSD over 2x250GB Raid 0. 3. Better processor = NO; Again, I don't want to take my computer apart, and I don't want a tech doing it either. My processor is fine for what I need it do, especially with Mild OCing. 4. Ram = NO; I already bought my HyperX 1333 ram, don't need more, plus I hear the difference between 4gb and 6gb is small at best. 5. Graphics Cards = NO; I have new cards in here, and I know they would send me a refurb, not to mention again with the computer being taken apart which I don't want. I am left with really one optimal choice. Getting them to upgrade me to a 256GB SSD. Now, they probably won't, so I plan on asking them for a Gift Card, or %off to some extent to make the hit to my wallet less of a burden. I feel that with my current set up, the upgraded ram, and an SSD, I am going to be sitting pretty. Just sharing my thoughts!

I'd go with the SSD myself.

Regarding number 4, if you needed 6GB of memory you would know it. Have you already installed the HyperX memory?
