Acer partially fulfills prophecy, overtakes Dell as number two PC maker in US

Who Would have thought. Go Acer!

Quote:
As if on cue, here's some new data research firm Gartner lending credence to Lanci's boasting. Looks like Acer has leapfrogged over Dell for the number tow spot in terms of US market share for the third quarter of 2009, from 12.5 to 15.4 percent of the Big Pie Chart™. Meanwhile Dell is just below at 12.8 percent, and HP is sitting happily atop with a 19.9 percent ownership. It's not worldwide domination, but hey, it's a start.

Interesting and yea news to me. I don't know but think Acer has a greater presence in the Netbook niche. Just speculation off the top of my head no market research behind that comment. But that is my current thought on what is going on?

Edit: I must say while units shipped is valid, gross sales and net profit are the true measure of success for any business. Acer deals in more affordable units. Would like sales figures. I will read the entire link later.

Actually Acer reports higher profit in Q3, due to the high demand of its systems. So the number 2 spot does indeed translate to more sales and profit in this case.

Dell is still very strong within corporate accounts, but not for long as HP slowly sneaks back to the fold. But in general, Dell is slipping big time in the public sector for many consecutive quarters. Michael Dell is too busy spending/investing money to protect himself, speak personal security, than taking care of the small peoples who made his brand a household name, time to bring back in-house support instead of outsourcing his bread & butter

Another interesting report here this month.

Kinda incorrect Acer is still #3 in US shipments and Dell is #1 but worldwide Acer overtook Dell which isnt shocking with 3 name brands under its belt. Although HP is poised to take the #1 spot from dell soon as far as us shipments go.
