Windows 7 - Catalyst Install Manager Has Stopped Working - please help!

Hello folks,

I just recently upgraded my Studio 1737 laptop to Windows 7. Everything seems to be working perfectly with the exception of the ATI Video driver. I downloaded the latest Win 7 (64-bit) driver from Dell, ran the executable and after selecting the "Install" option it stops and says "CATALYST Install Manager has stopped working". I've searched google but I wasn't able to find anything helpful. I've tried deleting the default driver and reinstall with Dell's driver but that didn't work. As it is now, I am able to use the laptop, but I don't have access to any of the Catalyst features.

Is there anyone else out there that is having the same problem? Anyone know of a solution?

TIA,

grecinos

you may have to run the installer "as administrator" - right click on the install file and select "run as administrator"

Try running Windows Update and see if they have an ATI driver available. I know Nvidia drivers can be installed via Windows Update, so it might be possible with ATI as well.

Thanks for the response. So far I tried the 9-10 and the 9-9 (beta) driver directly from ATI/AMD. I also tried the R227577.exe driver from Dell's driver site. All of which gave the same failure to install.

Earlier this morning I tried "chatting" with Dell Tech Support and he said that by upgrading to Win 7, I voided my warranty! I was really upset to hear that, but at least he was able to point me to a bluetooth driver that I was needing. He said to get more support I would have to pay extra...

Last month I was considering purchasing an extra year warranty. WOW, am i glad i didn't bite the bullet on that one!

it doesn't void your warranty, but you don't get support for an operating system that you didn't buy directly from them with the system. you still have your hardware warranty

I followed the instructions from this link:

http://insomniacgeek.com/blog/cataly...opped-working/

I was able to install the ATI drivers, however I can't access the Catalyst Interface that was available in Windows Vista. Can anyone confirm that there's a Catalyst interface in Windows 7 when you right click the desktop?

There is Catayst on my desktop WIN 7 Ultimate, You could download mobility modder and get it to mod a desktop version of ATI newest drivers. It worked a charm on my studio 1555 with Catalyst 9.9 drivers.

Strange; I had no problems getting the Catalyst control center to work on my Studio XPS 16 after upgrading to Win 7 ultimate 64-bit...

Welp... I've given up and decided to NUKE my hard drive and start from scratch. If this doesn't work I'm going to start sticking things in the microwave that shouldn't be there!
