1.) on the upgrade cd when you get them. (make sure you are eligible - http://www.acer.com/windows7upgrade/eligible.html)
2.) go to the site and order them (http://www.acer.com/windows7upgrade/) 3.) if you upgrade, it should be the same. if you clean install, you can alter the partitions 4.) whatever you want. 5.) left is power, right is battery. refer to user guide. 6.) should already read sdhc, have you tried? 7.) look in the programs folder for the user guide, or on the acer website 8.) there is none, but lucky you found NBF!

- Thanks for your reply. I bought the upgrade from Amazon last July, when MS ran their pre-order promotion. (Acer was not even listed as an eligible vendor for the promotion.) They were just shipped today, so I should receive them shortly. Does this mean that Acer will refuse to provide me with the Win 7 drivers?UPDATE: Went to Acer's FAQ page re Win 7 upgrade and noted the following: How do I know if I am qualified for the Windows® 7 Upgrade Program? Supported models purchased between June 26, 2009 and January 31, 2010 are eligible for the Windows® 7 Upgrade Program. My 5735 is supported, but was purchased 5/14/09, so therefore is "ineligible" for the Upgrade Program, which would include the driver and application updates? This will be a disagreeable situation if I'm forced to compile the drivers and applications list myself and then scrounge for the Win 7 updates from individual vendors, when these files could and--in the interest of customer support--should be available directly from Acer's website at absolutely no cost to them. No Acer links to "Help and Support"? Guess I've been spoiled by Dell's extensive knowledge base that's integrated into their computers. ![]() Quote:

2) Acer will allow you to get the W7 drivers. Almost all hardware lets anyone get drivers. I mean it has no value except to someone who has the hardware so a right to use?
3) Clean install is always the best. 4) ? 5) Without reading manual I believe amber says charging green says full. If so then yes all is well. 6) I don't know. It might not work. SDHC can read SD but not the other way always. 7) 8) Yes you are fortunate. |

3) My personal experiences tell me that upgrading from Vista to W7 gives one the better chances of keeping the current apps/utilities in working condition rather than a clean install.
After the upgrade process, I let W7 picking up whatever updates it can find for the notebook. 8)Welcome to NBF. Enjoy ![]() cheers ...

![]() I'll reply to these one at a time as it's easier for everyone (especially me!) to keep track of. Quote:
So when will Acer migrate the W7 applications and drivers files that are found only in their "upgrade kit" CD to the model-specific drop down menus on the Drivers Downloads page? That's the big question. Last edited by pickles; 10-27-2009 at 07:28 PM. |

Sorry, the question was badly worded. The D partition takes up half the space on my int HDD. Does it need that much space? Is it needed at all? The second part has to do with the pros and cons of Acer eRecovery Management vs Windows Backup and Restore, and whether anyone's using both. And finally, whether the Acer program needs the D partition in order to work correctly.

Thanks for your input, and sorry for the delayed reply. I've answered these in order, and try not to reply with something that's half-baked. ![]() If I perform the upgrade and don't like the outcome, can I start over with a clean install? Will that count as a "second use" of the OS disk? (I think I remember reading that you're allowed either two or three installs on different computers per retail version.) Quote:
Regarding the built-in card reader, I noticed that you've recently reviewed the 7738G. Although it's a higher-end model than mine. it only lists SD compatibility in the specs--same as mine. Did you happen to check whether it can read SDHC cards? Quote:

. Sure you can always go for a clean install anytime you desire. For me upgrade has been spot on, and with the disabling of not-needed start-up processes and services, the upgrade machines are running super. Eventually I do remove some of the apps that I no longer need. But in this instance, if I am not short on disk space, I just leave it.
. W7 upgrade would only pick up the device drivers, as far as special apps concern, it is up to Acer to do it. To be fair, if the "Vista" versions work under W7, Acer will take its sweet time to make changes to them, just like with any other manufacturers. . I have no issue with reading SDHC cards on the 7738G, we need to update the entries in our database regarding different support of SD card readers. cheers ...

W7 I have not installed. For many upgrade might be more convenient than clean install. Certainly simpler. My comment was from the extreme computer geek perspective.
Vista drivers work? I have heard that. It only makes me think W7=Vista SP3? |
