Did anybody notice a major differences between a Core2Quad Q9000 aka VD7 21xx model an the newer ones with Core i7 720Q CPU?

temperature, energy consumption, loudness ...

Do you have one? Can you share your experiences?

No, I just think about to buy one.

Both CPU claim 45W TDP, so probably a toss-up as far as energy consumption and temperature go by themselves.

Loudness? This has to do with a notebook design, and so goes temperature as far as the "whole" notebook concerns.

Performance? i7-720Q has better number

yes, I would think so too.
But both CPU work in a different way, It could be possible that the core i7 will reduce the real power consumption in systems which didn't have a permanent high load for all cores. As I understand the quadcore will use max power if only one core is under high load...?


The quadcore models use a ATI card, the new DV7 30xx with core i7 a Nvidia card. Perhaps they also change the cooling stuff. I didn't know... so I quest every body ;-)


I hope so. Compared with a P9700 the 720QM looks not so much better in most test.

The CPU is just that, one part of the whole equation. If one does not have a good motherboard/chipset, it will be just a waste. That is why it makes so hard for notebook users to even have a clear picture.

I use nVidia and ATI, but would take ATI nowadays ;-) They have climbed back up, surely. nVidia is having issues with some contractual paperwork, so they are having a disadvantage at the moment and in the near future.

Sure. Because of that, my main question is about the perhaps very similar models DV7 20xx/QuadCore and DV7 30xx/Core i7/720QM.
Until today I didn't see a review of any DV7 3xxx models with core i7, so a 2 months old DV7 21xx (Q9000 CPU) review is my base point.





Yes, after so much hot spot problems with my old Nvidia GO6150 I was happy to see that HP is using ATI for DV7 models, but now they change again to Nvidia...
