Defrag for 10 hours?

Yeah, you read it right. My Norton 360 is STILL defraging and has been for the past 10 hours. Now, I hate using norton for Defrags because it does take a long time.

Can ANYONE please recommend a FREE defrag software I can download that just kicks ass?

Many thanks,

Darq Nemesis is a n00b, but everyone loves n00bs!
I've always had good luck with this free defragmenter (I keep it on my thumbdrive)
http://www.auslogics.com/disk-defrag

I tried this but did not like the run time although I can not argue how well it did the job
http://www.defraggler.com/

This is a great one if you wish to remotely defrag your comptuer

I downloaded a free 30 day trial of PerfectDisk 10. Read a lot of good reviews and heck, its free to use for 30 days.

http://www.perfectdisk.com/ is the website...

I uninstalled PerfectDIsk and downloaded MyDefrag... all i have to say is:

AWESOME! Make my shut down/boot up time WAY quicker. I downloaded it on my wife's comp too and hers is running smooth too now.

Thanks GHN!

it's quicker. Cleaner, and gives me a faster system

I hate reformatting. I don't do it often at all. Maybe once a year or every year 6 months...

If I am busy, defrag once a month is plenty and just right to keep the systems flying. None of my comps have been reformatted, even the 5+ years old Same thing going when I want to put in a larger drive, Acronis clone and I am set.

A couple time I had to perform a full new installation due to hard drives took the dump.

cheers ...

Use MyDefrag here, usually once a week along with bootvis, cleaning out prefetch, doesn't take much effort and is the only way to maintain lowish 16 second boot time's with a hard drive in my experience, leave it alone for 2 or 3 week's and boot time grows significantly due to the nature of window's, particularly xp.

I've owned my current notebook for just over a year and have probably reformatted 6 or 7 time's, more due to messing around with different hard drive's, comparing different OS's on clean install's etc, every 6 months would be more normal for me.

I agree with qhn that cloning software is handy, especially if you have a lot of old hard drive's laying around

I guess we'll all be happy when SSD's are cheap
