Radeon 5830 vs. NVidia GTX 260
Hi,
I've been searching for some time now for a gaming laptop, and I think I have my options narrowed down enough to get opinions now. Which GPU is better between these two cards? The whole DX11 support for the 5830 kinda makes me want to grab that, but if it's going to suffer horribly performance-wise in comparison, I don't want to waste my money. Here are two laptops I've been comparing right now: ASUS N71JQ-A1 http://www.xoticpc.com/asus-n71jqa1-order-p-2733.html Gateway P-7908u FX http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc..._Notebook.html That's to give a rough idea of what I'm looking at right now. There's a cheaper laptop at xoticpc with the main difference to me being a smaller screen, but I figure I'd compare two 17" screens. So just looking for some input. If anyone is wondering I'm looking to stay under $1400 CDN if possible, which the xoticpc laptop currently will go over, so I may opt for the 16" if it turns out the performance is better than the Gateway. If anyone has another laptop I may have overlooked please let me know. Kepe in mind it has to be capabale of being shipped to Canada. Thanks. |

What you need to do is think if DX11 is THAT important to you. What games are supporting DX11 as a graphical update? (Not many) If the DX11 card is more expensive, and you cannot think of a use for DX11 and you're only reason to get that notebook would be for "the future", I wouldn't recommended going with the Radeon.
However, if you're going to be playing the new STALKER game, and extra detail is important to you, I'd go with the DX11 card. Make sense? |

Yeah that does make sense I guess lol. But I honestly don't know what games are even coming out that use DX11. I guess I'm mostly concerned with future-proofing myself as I don't want to have to buy another laptop in a couple of years just because DX11 is suddenly important.

The card on the Asus is 5730 not the 5830. If it was a 5830 with GDDR5 it would be a better choice if you ask me. 5730 is GDDR3 and as such and half the SP of the 5870 the 260 wins.
