Just got off the phone with eMachines tech support myself. They are "aware" of the issue, but they consider it "cosmetic" damage and will not cover it under warranty. Oh well. I guess those of you with Best Buy's ESP will probably have better luck in getting a new one.

Has anyone had any luck with epoxy or some other glue? The crack itsself isn't *THAT* bad. It is more of a blame issue. It wasn't our fault so we should get it fixed for free. Still, we are all smart. We should come up with alternatives.

We will only have "luck" until eMachines tells BB to stop swapping just for the crack. It sounds like eMachines still doesn't have a consistent inhouse policy regarding this since it appears it depends on who you get on the phone at eMachines.

ok. I just contacted emachines customer service and spoke to mike about my cracked hinge problem. He referred me to the corporate number and I spoke to a gentleman there. He told me that emachines has received numerous complaints about this problem and are working on a solution for it. There may be a light at the end of the tunnel for all of us. Anyone who has a cracked hinge and has not contacted emachines, I definately recommend you do so. The gentleman took down my information and said he'd be contacting me soon to inform me of emachines solution to this problem.

yea right.
Sager has the same problem with the 5690. They get the generic case from clevo. Once you're so far down the line in production, they will NOT alter the case design. It would cost the company more to fix it, than to lose customers. Sorry.
The only way to fix this is to loosen the hinges, but once the crack is there, it's too late.

Well I just got off the phone with emachines tech support and spoke with Tech "john" and he told me he had not heard of the problem, sending me a return box and gave me an RMA number. Said I should have it back in a week.

Bloodgrove99:

What is the number for the corporate office? My tech just asked her superviser who said that it was only "cosmetic" and not to do anything, then they gave me a number to order a new part.

I considered myself lucky to not have a crack. This morning I looked again and there it is, a crack on the power connect side. I use my notebook quite a bit but I'm always careful how I handle it. The moral of the story is even if you baby it, it's going to crack. I guess if you rarely open and close it you stand a much better chance of keeping it mint. Now I'm thinking I should of got a Dell, dude.

you know how i feel. i dont want the Compaq because of the 440go, i dont want the emachines because of the crack. this means unless i can afford a Mayhem G3 (keep dreaming!) i have to give up 64-bit junk (there is one more 64 bit in the $1300 price on mwave.com) This leaves me with 2(4) choices:

1.CL56
2.Dell 5150
(3). 64-bit from mwave
(4). Compaq x1000

If everyone gets their LCD replaced before they remedy the problem, i can definetly see this Notebook going up in price. No sense on getting multiple LCD's when they are all going to have the same problem. Some really impatient people on these forums, you'll have minimum one year to get it fixed, might as well do it once and for all when they fix it, or just send it in at 11 months....lol

I know this for a fact. ALL of the hinges in the m680X series are going to crack sooner or later. I don't know how or if emachines will permanantly fix the problem. We can only keep our fingers crossed.

You are making assumptions. You don't know that eMachines WILL fix it as many of the people in this thread have said eMachines told them is was cosmetic and wouldn't do anything about it.

I'm assuming that due to the number of people returning them because of the crack, that eMachines will stop BB from just swapping them, and force them to repair them. That's why I didn't wait.

Since I've now gotten a laptop thru work, I'll probably be putting the *09 up for sale.

I might be, however it's people like you who will get everyone screwed in the future cause you got 4 notebooks that all had cracks cause you couldn't wait a few months till they said what they were going to do. You already know that E-machines is RMA'ing these, there's no chance they are gonna stop that now, trust me.....the ball has been rolling long enough to ensure that. All i am saying is that i can wait several months with a little crack rather than wait 2 weeks every month for a new LCD replacment cause i couldn't deal with a cosmetic issue.
