Adobe Premiere Vs Pinnacle Edition DV ..

hello!
i was planning to do video editing once i purchase ( sony 950? maybe, i don t know yet) a camcorder.. the avid dv express seems to be a great solution but what about those other two?.. i have read somewhere that the pinnacle solution was using a firewire box that does all the realtime efx etc...adobe is all software i believe?
so could someone tells me the pros and cons of each apps when used with a 8887?

thx.

What about Vegas Video?

I just received my 8887, and installed Vegas Video 4 + DVD; haven't done any editing yet, but it looks excellent for features and value!

I've used Premiere for 6 years of NLE, and know it quite well. But Adobe never seemed to fix some of the bugs that I'm tired of dealing with, and hope VV doesn't have these bugs. (bugs in Premiere relate to still images mostly, having Motion applied: sometimes don't render correctly).

Anyone using Express DV or Pinnacle on their Sager?

Barry

I've tried Pinnacle's lower-end EXPRESSION so far (I'm trying to get that massive amount of free time needed to do NLE).

So far, I am not impressed at all with Expression. Seems a bit buggy (crashes often). I had to train myself to save after every step or two, just for insurance! All I needed to do (which is why I bought the cheapie version) is create a "slide show" movie of a bunch of digital stills (I have about 12,000 photos that I ultimately want to put on a few DVD's - seperated by category).

It took a little less than real-time to encode the "movie" (I had only a single audio track and whatever the program did for transitions - this was more of a test for me). That was nice.

The HT-enabled 3.06GHz processor is really nice for this, though. Except, oddly enough, even though I applied the multiprocessor patch, and "both" processors were utilized, the max % hit (by either) never went above 65-75% - making me wonder how well written the pinnacle stuff is.

However, this obviously is not a polished application and not geared for a prosumer (like I sometimes think of myself). However, I am hessitant to plop down the serious $$$ for an NLE or other DVD-authoring app until I play around with several of them (again, back to that needing lots of free time).

Jahlove-
You might try www.sonicfoundry.com/forums/default.asp which, of course, is a Vegas users forum. Then search laptops.
I hope Barry gives us an update when he finally has time to get into his new system. It's always great to a read a review from someone very familiar with a popular competing product.
