I turned my notebook (np8886 I think) and the three rightmost LEDs (Above
the keyboard) stay lit, the screen remains black, and the system
unresponsive. I tried removing the tiny battery under the keyboard, and
the battery, and the power cord. I left it for about a minute then put
those things back in, when I turned it on the same thing happened as
above, except it would turn off a second or two after I turned it on. I
hear a slight hissing sound, but smell nothing, when there is a power cord
plugged in, whether the system is on or not.. Any ideas?

More info on the problem:

I have tried connecting another monitor (external) , same thing happens,
also the hard drive LED is never active (the three leds that are
constantly lit are capslock, numlock, and scrlock, I think) , the system
seems to hang, after a few checks of the hard drive and cd drive (you can
hear them being activated) Also about the computer turning off quickly
afterwards, I think that was because I was trying to run it off of a dying
battery, and heat was not the cause, the fans seem to be working. There is
a slight hissing sound when the power cord is plugged in, don't know if
that was there before. I also tried a fn+esc suspend key, but that doesn't
seem to work... (not sure about this though since my keyboard may be
damaged)

I've also heard that this might be a problem with the hardware not being able to reset itself? Any ideas?

Did you try a hard reset? Removing the battery and holding down the power button for 20 seconds or so (check the manual, my memory is a bit hazy on this). That clears the bios, anyway.

I haven't tried that... but I have removed the battery, the power cord, and the tiny battery under the keyboard for more than a minute and then put them back (I think that resets the bios also). I'll try it.

Also I tried it without a hard drive and the same thing happens
(capslock, scrlock, numlock stay light, screen black (not on), system unresponsive).

Is this what would happen if the System Suspend is activated?
(I have tried deactivating with my original keyboard, since I use an external one, didn't work, either because that's not the problem, or because it was unable to deactivate, since my keyboard sometimes automatically 'presses' the shift key and/or I'm not sure if it is properly reinserted)

Sager Tech Supports said something about the hardware not being able to 'reset itself'.

This might be a motherboard problem?

Is the sound when the power cord is inserted and the system is not on supposed to be there (slight hissing sound, could be a fan, drowned out by system fans when laptop is on)?

I have yet to get a screwdriver and open it up to look inside...

Any other ideas?

I tried the 'hard reset' and the same problem happens. I removed the main battery cord and main battery and pressed power for about a minute, put them back and rebooted..didn't work, then I removed the main battery and power cord and the tiny battery under the keyboard and then pressed power again for about a minute, put them back and rebooted.. still didn't work...

Could be something fried on the mobo. I hope it is not, but it is sounding more and more likely.

I don't know if i'll be returning this for 'repair', costs 89$ plus shipping both ways just to look at it, then parts and labor for the thing that needs to be fixed/replaced... =/ dunno what 2 do..

I will be opening it and looking at it myself if possible, looking for stuff on how to disassemble it..?

I found what might be the cause after disassembling it, anyone have any info on this particular part? Any know where I can get info on it? Anyone have the service manual (might that have information on it?) Its near the power supply connector above the cpu:

The Service Manual does get down to that detail. I can can find the spot but it's not identified and most of those things are not. It will take someone whose knows the Mother Board in Detail to say what it is and even if they know I don't think it will help much. Why do you think that is the problem ?

There is a small capacitor on the other side of those two points (arrows), I think the fluid leaked out (its not obvious in the picture but if you saw the motherboard you would think it was that part also, crap allover the place brown black etc, cleaned it with alcohol) , I replaced it, and it seems to work now!! well.. dunno really, but I get info on screen : bios checksum invalid, press ctrl alt s etc. have to put it back 2gether now...

edit: the problem might have started from a bad power supply..

edit: the part is actually on the other side of the motherboard, small purple capacitor if u were wondering, it is the only one in the vicinity

Ok, I can see a wide area where that looks brownish. I'm trying to figure out how something would only spill in that area. In lfting the keyboard area there is another plastic area keeping spills from reaching that area. Did it look anything like thermal paste.

I think it was the capacitor on the other side, and after resetting the cmos, the computer boots into windows!. I ran it overnight, with cpu/ram/hd tasks and it still works today morning, looking good so far...

edit: it was not from underneath the keyboard, don't think it was thermal paste, I think it went through the tiny holes on the MB
