Give them a chance the 3200 only hit the retail outlets 3 weeks ago!!!!!!!
They will continue the tradition of one Ferrari series at a time......you shouldnt expect a 3300 or 3400 until late 2005 at the earliest.

huh? retail stores meaning online retailers or actual physically present retail locations (i.e. compusa, best buy, etc.)? because if you can find it in one of the latter in either chcago (yup, i'm there right now) or somewhere in CT (that's where i actually live
), i'm gonna go there and try it out because from what i've heard the jeyboard is one of those love-it-or-hate-it deals, due to that weird contour thing. has anybody had some sort of experience with that? |

i plan on buying the Ferrari 3200 here in malaysia.. the shop is giving me a call tomorrow.. Im also wondering about new versions of the laptop.. dont you hate that feeling when you buy a new notebook and then you see a better version in some shop window two weeks later?
How can you upgrade the cpu? i woult prefer a 3200+ rather than the 2800. any ideas? or walkthroughs on how to do it if possible And how can you get 256mb on a graphics chip.. i know that only these high end notebook vendors sell them but isnt it possible to buy a 256mb version and trade with the current 128 on the notebook? any thoughts would be appreciated |

It is available in the UK from both online vendors and also retail outlets......I cannot speak for chicago or CT.
And with regard to the keyboard.........its not an issue and again has been exagerated by a few individuals...............you are talking about a very VERY minor curvature to the keyboard nothing more. Its not like the microsoft ergonomic keyboard no where near as much.........i notice no difference typing on a acer keyboard than a normal laptop keyboard. I cannot believe the posts are continuing here about an updated 3200 - its really pathetic get a grip on reality..........yes a new ferrari will be available next year probably. ACER are having trouble making enought 3200's and you lot are looking for an updated version.............weird

The ferrari 3200 comes stock... not many vendors will make the mods for you. Pctorque might? I dunno. As for a 256 9700 mobility... do those even exist?
Just remember that the 2800+ is the low power version the 3200+ is not, i don't think so anyway. I think it'd still be a do it yourself though, 'cause the ferrari comes straight from Acer the way it is.

well i'm used to a lot of computer component companies having 6-month product cycles, so i thought that i would be screwed like i was with my dell (by the time it arrived at my house, something better was available). but i guess that acer's just too good to do that.

Dekka, sincerely hope you don't mind me asking. How much was your Acer TM8006lmi? And where did you buy and specify the options (ie. extra RAM, fast 7200RPM HD, etc.) from, if possible? The specs on your sig look well sweet.
PM me, if you wish.Would something like that out-class the Ferrari 3200? Thanks kindly, m8. Last edited by Kieran; 06-29-2004 at 09:04 AM. |

Kieran,
I am in the UK it was around £1500.00 but there are lots of retailers with it such as www.neutronexpress.com etc. You cannot specify options on Acer machines you just have to get your own upgrades and do them yourself (Easy). The 2.0ghz dothan does indeed outperform the ferrari 3200 processor and there is more battery life but you need to pay the premium.

Thanks Dekka, am in the UK too.
£1500 doesn't seem at all bad! In fact many laptops I've been looking at (at around the 1.7GHz / 735 mark) are often in excess of that (the Sony VGN-A117s, for example, albeit with it having a 17" widescreen). I take it you purchased the extra RAM and the 7200RPM HD seperately? Was the Radeon 9700 128MB graphics card bundled with the laptop? Any places to look out for for the laptop itself? Searching via www.Kelkoo.co.uk found several that hovered around the £1600-£1700 price. BTW, how quiet is it? How often is the fan brought into use? Thnx m8 ![]() |

www.acernotebooks.co.uk is a good supplier fast 24 hour delivery of the 8006 bit more expensive but worth it. (Interest free credit if u need it there as well).
Buy the HD from www.dabs.com buy the memory from www.crucial.com/uk. The laptop is certainly on comparison noise wise with most others however when u get to this sort of speed no laptop runs quiet. Fan is really depending on workload about once evrey 5-10 mins for 1 min for medium use and constant for gaming (Still not too loud as far as laptop fans go during gaming) - certainly quieter than the Sager's It is quieter than the 8600 dell - noise is not really a negative with the machine or a positive. Radeon 128mb 9700 is standard on the 8006lmi.

Snorre,
I am basing my statement on the benchmarks that I get on my 2.0ghz dothan compared to what users have posted with the AMD. And to backup these I am basing them on the Real life benchmarks such as content creation and also Maya Benchmark and Adobe Filter and Lame Encoding and windows media encoding... Have a look at http://www.gamepc.com/labs/view_cont...othan20&page=3 It clearly shows the best performing in the real world Is that not enough "Real World" benchmarks - What else do you need to see!! ![]()

Dekka: The GamePC review is by far not thorough enough, and to make absolutely sure which CPU is the best performing we need to see several real world benchmark for every possible use:
- Memory benchmarks - Scientific benchmarks - Office benchmarks - 3D rendering benchmarks - Image editing benchmarks - Video editing benchmarks - Audio/Video encoding benchmarks - Encryption/compression benchmarks - Game benchmarks - etc. The test suite also have to contain a wide variety of benchmarks in each category, preferably using both non-commercial and commercial real world software and as few pure synthetic benchmark applications as possible. If you still don't get my point I suggest that you check out these awesome review sites and maybe you can learn how proper benchmarking is done for a change: http://www.aceshardware.com/read.jsp?id=65000304 http://www.anandtech.com/cpu/showdoc.html?i=2091 http://techreport.com/reviews/2004q2...0/index.x?pg=1
