Hey guys! So I have my Fujitsu S6210 and its working wonderfully. I'm going to review it, and I'm going to do it in a couple stages. I'll review it now, and a bit more after a few days of use.

First, I'll review PortableOne.

www.portableone.com is where I bought this laptop. I highly recommend them. I have had NO griefs with them. When I was first trying to decide what to buy, I emailed portableone and talked with Ivan about a few issues. The response time was great, I usually got a reply email within a minute. He answered my questions in a straightforward and truthful manner.
He told me before I ordered that it would be a couple weeks of wait, because they were out of stock. Fair enough. I saw that they were nearby (15 min drive) from where I live, so I asked if I could pick up the laptop and pay in person. He said this was fine and reserved a laptop for me. I thought this was very nice because he reserved a laptop which was in obvious high demand for me even though all the contact I had with him was over email and didn't give him my credit card number yet.

So today, about two weeks later, I went to get the laptop. When I got there, Ivan came and talked to me. Got me my laptop and had me open it and make sure everything was good. He seemed just as relieved as I did when I couldn't find any dead pixels His conduct was very friendly and professional at the same time. He also gave me a free carrying case.

Now, on to the laptop review. I tried to take pictures of everything I thought was important. I didn't use flash for most of the pictures because I don't like flash But, don't worry, I had a tripod. The pictures aren't great, I didn't take much time to take them. And my tripod is broken, so everything's at an angle, but it gets the point across, I hope!


Ok, first thing is its size. Its a 13.3" screen, so its just a bit bigger than a piece of paper. It is light, I can easily hold it with one hand if I wanted to. A bit heavier and I wouldn't trust my hand, though.

Here are the four sides:



On the front there is a SD/Memory stick card slot. It doesn't have a cover.
The button to open the laptop isn't the normal pull sort of clip. You simply press the button and the top pops up a bit. It makes openning it with one hand easy.


On the left side are all the air vents and the slot for the PCMCIA (probably got that wrong) card. The headphone and mic slots are there too.



On the right side, there is the DVD/CD drive and the hole for a laptop lock.



On the back, there is (from left to right, while facing the back)

phone line, 1 usb port, External screen connector (with a cover), power plug, wifi switch, s-video plug, ethernet plug, firewire slot, 2 more usb ports.



Now, the keyboard area. There is the touchpad, left and right click, and then a button that rocks up and down for scroll action. No middle mouse, I don't think. It seems that you can similuate middle mouse with pressing both left and right at the same time. The keyboard itself is pretty good. The keys are wider than most laptop keyboards. I welcome this, because I don't want to feel cramped, but it takes a bit to get used to. There's nothing too much else to say about the keyboard. There's also a button to disable the mouse, which is useful when typing long things (like this review). Above the keyboard, there are 6 buttons. The one on the most right is power. Next to that is the application/player switch. each of the next 4 buttons has 2 functions, the switch changes between which action is taken when teh button is pressed.

Then there's the little readout next to the buttons. non-lit, it will be hard to read at night. It shows power readouts, and i'm not sure what else (haven't read the manual yet :P)

The screen is glorious. Its Crystal View. Nothing to complain about :P It makes my CRT feel dull. Left and right viewing angles are great. I can read text from a pretty extreme angle. Up and down angles, on the other hand, aren't as extreme :P move your head up a foot and it gets really bright. move down and it gets dark, but still readable. Yes its a glossy screen. Not noticable indoors. But outdoors, it has a mirror effect :P I don't notice it while working, but I'm sure I could check my hair in the reflection.

for what its worth, here's a video (5 megs. taken from my digital point and shoot camera). Of course, it doesn't really show what it looks like in real life. but hey, just for fun :P

The palm area is starting to heat up a bit after some use. After typing this pile of text, my palms are starting to get sweaty. Not uncomfortable though. Just, if you type for like, 30 minutes at a time, your hands will get slippery :P

Nothing much to say about the bottom. there are 4 little feet things, and two sort of leather pads which help it move around comfortably.

Nothing much else to say. these are my first impressions. I will write more after I've had a chance to use it and install my stuff on it
