One or 2 is ok, but 4 was kinda overkill for a 56k...

no, but i'm still reluctant due to the fact that i've never realy had many suscessfull dx upgrades, 90% of them allways had something up with the downloaded or cd based files and usualy created conflicts with about half my programs (only Non MS programs)....

To dynamically change the 640x480 res to your preference on reboot\signon:

1. Get the Cat3.4 drivers download from http://www.omegacorner.com.
2. Extract the drivers and\or start the install but abort it before it finishes (assuming you don't want to use these drivers).
3. Go to C:\Program Files\Radeon Omega Drivers v2.4.43\MultiRes and install the MultiRes utility.
4. MultiRes is a SysTray app from which you can do a quick change, like the ATI app or many others, BUT.....
5. MultiRes also has a res change command line capability, and, since it's in the registry to run on start up .....
6. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
7. Set MultiRest to look like this: "MultiRes"="C:\\Program Files\\MultiRes\\MultiRes.exe /1600,1200,32", or whatever your res preference is.
8. There's a MultiRes help file in Start\Programs for further info.
9. The PC will reboot to 640x480, then after signon and running the app from the registry it will dynamically change to your preference.

The Omega Cat3.4's had a few hiccups, but they work fine. You may want to use the original ATI 3.4 drivers.
1. The RadClocker (overclocker) utility doesn't install and gives error message boxes when you open the Settings\Display control panel, so deselect it during install.
2. The Control Panel is practically non-existent, plain vanilla XP, so I installed the new ATI Control Panel. It has a rotation feature that is really weird.
3. I used the driverheaven/patje Mobility Modder to add the M9 to the Cat3.4's, and it apparently did it's job.

As for the original 3.4 problem resetting to 640x480, there are a slew of DefaultSettings.XResolution (and YResolution) entries throughout the registry. You'll find that most are set to your preferred resolution, but that at least one is set to 640x480, and apparently gets reset on reboot even if you alter it. Ah, there lies the rub. Whoever is doing this should be sent to DLL Hell, though it could be an EXE or a SYS too. Welcome to the New Millenia, Stardate 2003 or something. Methinks we've taken a few steps backward. Freelancer has finally stopped freezing, for now, but there are still a lot of pauses, some more pregnant than others. Luvly.

Just extract the Omega's driver setup, abort the driver install, and go to the MultiRes folder to setup the Multires utility.

I just found MultiRes is done by the makers of Powerstrip and can be obtained independently from here .

Woe is me. I uninstalled the Omegacorner 3.4 drivers because my DirectX AGP Texture options had been disabled and grayed out, not even an option anymore. I installed the plain vanilla ATI3.4, suitably modded, and now Freelancer is freezing again, even with AGP Texture disabled. Also, I uninstalled and reinstalled the ATI Control Panel . The Rotation feature went away, SMARTGART became a tab (never had it before) and the Color tab (gamma settings etc.) changed format. These drivers are a dog and Freelancer is a pig! Welcome to the animal farm! I'm not that fond of Freelancer anyway. More like an arcade game thinly disguised as an RPG. "Go search for so-and-so and kill him" means go shoot a ship. Borrrrring.

Dynamite. Thanks. The embedded Help with the Control Panel is a bit weak.

Oberhammer, same thing is happening to me. I have tried both ways of installing the drivers and followed the instructions to the letter. I reboot a sure enough, 640x480. Then I have to change again the resolution. It seems to remember some settings, brightness and contrast thru the ATI panel but does not remember resolution or refresh rate. Defaults back to 60. I still have the 3.4 loaded but really frustrating. I think I read on one of the earlier posts about editing the registry or something? Anyone have any ideas? I have the 8887-V.

what refresh rates are you using? Dont use anything other than 60Hz - its bad for the LCD...

I am encountering new problems with the Cat 3.4's - I dunno if any of you have read the thread about the IRQ issues but they seem more pronounced with these drivers installed. I am also seeing long range transparency in BF1942 when the system gets warm, jerky graphics in F1-2002 under ANY conditions...

All indications that something is not right...

Going to do an OS re-install this weekend and will post after that regarding my tests and results... shucks...ATI bombed with the drivers again...the 3.4's seem to be a HUGE success with the desktop cards...we're getting screwed on a daily basis...us poor M9 owners

Ok GS..thanks for the info....will change back to 60hz. I will probably follow suit. Back to the 3.2's until something gets done. Let us know what you find out about your OS install. Do not think it will help but worth a shot. Is ATI aware of any issues with these drivers?

I was having another issue, my brightness dim and brighten keys on the keypad that you would hold fn dow and F9 or f8 to adjust. With the old drivers it would hard lock my laptop and I needed to turn off then on. The new drivers fix that problem. I am going to test when I revert back to 3.2 to see if it still happens.

Sinestr.
