Anyone know what the heck "Chung Hwa" laptop panels are???
Anyhow, just received my "custom" zt3000, and thought I would post this before I arrange for its return to HP:
It is a standard WXGA. Ultimate Boot CD reports a CPT1389 panel. I couldn't find any web search hits for: CPT1389 anywhere. But... then I searched for the Manufacturer: CLAA154WA01, and got: "Chung Hwa laptop screens" which I have now confirmed on several LCD panel websites (places that sell LCD panels). Does anyone know ANYTHING about Chung Hwa panels, that can give me any reason not to return this unit??? Obviously it is some Chinese manufacturer of some kind, but I have never heard of them, and figure that it was just HP's cost cutting measure of the month to send me one??? Thanks, Andrew Austin, TX |

Do you know that it is bad? Leakage, ghosting, etc. Just because you've never heard of it is no reason to return it. How do you know it doesn't kick-ass compared to what they ship on other machines? Can you get the specs on it such as pixel size, response time, contrast ratio, & brightness?

Can't get any specs whatsoever.
The China website won't allow my connection to it, and none of the US LCD Panel distributors list its specs. It appears to have too much "persistence" as in the image lingers after the panel has gone to black, etc. Don't worry, I plan to give it a few minutes or more of checkout, I just don't want to be the "sucker of the day" for HP. Chung hua is a city in taiwan, which probably means that these laptop panels are produced in this particular city...

The folks at Twinhead had told me yesterday that 5 new LCD panel manufacturers have popped up this year alone in Taiwan. The demand has grown so great that there is plenty of room for new manufacturers in this space. Having not heard of this particular company before, this might be one of those newbies.

I think my initial "shock" and outburst was that I had received a panel that I had never heard of.
I knew that there were about 4 possible panels I could get from HP for this model notebook, and this was not one of them. It may not be bad after all. Still testing it for ghosting, etc. Andrew Austin, TX Quote:

I should also point out the rather disturbing information Twinhead also shared with me. In order to meet the rapidly rising demand for LCD Panels for everything from PDAs/Digital Cameras all the way up to 30+" TVs, QA has suffered somewhat. Smash more bananas!

Turns out after all that this Chung Hwa panel is quite awesome. It has MUCH more contrast that almost anything I have ever seen other than a glossy screen like the XBrite.
I am trying to "get over" my other issues with the zt3000, such as the poor placement of ports and the power connector, etc. Andrew Austin, TX |
