i think this was kinnda obvious. every other chip on the market had dual core future. now if they could make it 64-bit too it would kick some serious ass. i am trying to imagine what kind of notebook will i be buying next year's fall. dual core 64 bit Centrino X based platform, with a 15' OLED screen, 2Gb of dual channel DDR2 RAM, 72 Gb disk at 10k rpm, and of course ATI's new model, the x999 with 24 pipes and 1 Gb of VRAM. All that rounded nicley at 2 Kg with 6 hours of battery life. Acer will probably name it McLaren, because McLaren will win 2004 F1 season cant wait

I don't think they can fit all that into 1 laptop with only 2kg. Also 6 hours of battery life is just a dream for the spec you want. Now let talk about real life not a dream. All spec you want will not come by next year's fall.

Solid state memory, screw moving drives! 6 hours should be the terrible end soon with fuel cells coming. Toshiba will have a laptop soon using fuel cells. OLED will be awesome!

Yes, the first dual-core Pentium M ("Yonah") will be for DTR (and blade servers) only since they have a power requirement of 50W according to Anandtech:

Things we do know do know about Yonah are listed below:
* Codename: Yonah
* Process: 65nm
* Operating Wattage: 50W
* Clock Speed: Unknown
* Launch Q3'05

Still better than the dual-core from AMD which was announced recently. If i recall correctly that had a 90W power req.

The power requirement of AMD's dual-core products haven't been disclosed yet:

* Strained Silicon

Unfortunately, AMD would not quote on exact thermal or clock speeds for either machine. We were generally under the impression they were running at lower clock speeds, however Pat Patla, AMD's Director of Server Marketing, was quick to point out that both systems were running in standard hardware configurations without additional cooling and shipping dual core product should be rated at the same wattage as single core solutions. Again, the large message behind AMD's dual core push was not thermals or clocks, but that the technology exists today and that deployment will not be hindered by core logic or motherboard changes.
With a dual-core version of a low-power Mobile Athlon 64 this could mean 35W, but I'm not sure though

I seem to recall a preview of AMD's dual core in a hotel room just a week before the Intel announcement. They DID disclose power reqs as my memory serves.

Edit: I'm pretty sure someone had a link to the review which included pictures, etc. I am almost certain that that exclusive preview had noted the power reqs.
