Pictures of the Acer Travelmate 4501WLMi

Just bought a new Acer Travelmate 4501WLMi and figured I'd post a couple of pictures (as a way of saying thanks for all the help this forum gave me).

It's a great machine btw. Great value for money...

Muchas gracias.

Does the 4501wlmi come with bluetooth built in? I know it has the button for bluetooth, but I am not sure if that button actually works. Can anyone who has this notebook confirm this?

Great pictures!

It does not have bluetooth built in and I contacted Acer to see if they sell something to add internal bluetooth to make use of the button, but I haven't heard back yet...

Thanks, please get back to this thread if you find out anything, I am really interested. In the IBM laptops the modem daughter card has to be replaced (to a modem/bluetooth CDC) to get bluetooth capability. Maybe this works for Acer as well???

Here's the email they sent me:

Quote:
Dear Mr. Maxwell,

Thank you for contacting Acer America. Although there is a button on the notebook for Bluetooth, the TravelMate 4501WLMi that ships in the US and Canada does not ship with a Bluetooth module on the motherboard. Therefore it does not support Bluetooth as it ships. In order to get Bluetooth, you will need to purchase a third party device such as a USB to Bluetooth transceiver, or other external device that provides Bluetooth capabilities. These type of devices are available at most computer shops that sell options and accessories for notebook products. We do not plan to implement an option to install a Bluetooth module on the motherboard.

Respectfully,
Bernice Craig

Thank you for sharing this information. It sound like the typical "unsupport" we are used to. I am sure both of us knew that we can buy third party USB or PCMCIA bluetooth adapters. But what use is the bluetooth button on the front of this machine??? I get frustrated when technical support dismisses us like dummies.

Anyway, I'll try to look into it and get back to you if I find out something.

Does anyone with a TM4501 have taken their lappy apart yet? Any idea where the bluetooth module should be?

I have the 4001WLMi (same as 4500 series but comes with bigger HDD and screen size, but only has XP Home and lacks the multibay) and it shipped with Wireless LAN b/g. The BT button is there, but once u press it says "No Device" due to an ACER program.
I suppose u either have integrated WLAN or BT (but two buttons).

I dont have that problem in this 4001 wlmi model... every key works fine ! But you can get em "click" if you carefully do up and down move on your fingers on the key.

The euro and dollar keys are useless near the arrow keys... i dont know why they put em there... I keep pushing those things all the time

APO that's good to hear. Is it supposed to be some kind of ergo thing? I hadn't noticed it before in my research and it struck me as a little funny. I guess you can adapt to anything though, given enough time.
