DISABLE Promise raid entirely on the NP8890

Hello, I'm trying to disable the Promise raid controller entirely.

I'm trying to install Solaris which detects the CD-ROM on the second IDE channel.

However, says 0 drives on the first channel. I'm suspecting the drives are either physically or software / jumper connected to the raid.

Is there a way to disable the promise raid where it comes up as a standard master/slave drive setup like the CD-ROM?

Thanks!

Disable RAID

You have a set of jumpers under your keyboard that will disable the RAID. If you look on the CD for your System or System book, there is a section that will show you the proper settings

Disabling the RAID under the keyboard does not drop you to the ICH5 controller on the chipset- it's still attached to a Promise controller, just no longer raid. You'll still need the PDC20265r kernel drivers. I don't know if they are available for solaris, but I do know they are available for linux. Good luck with that!

Depending on your skills you might be able to open it up and solder a few things. There are very detailed schematics in the Service Manual. Just a crazy idea.
