hard drive issues... please help
Hi,
I'm loving my new sager... however.... I bought it through work and they ordered the 80gb 5400 rpm drive instead of the 60gb 7200rpm I requested. (I want performance over storage space.) Anyway, I went out and bought a 60gb 7200rpm drive, replaced the 80gb one, and reinstalled windows. BUT NOW my benchmarks are a lot lower (especially in the pcmark2004 / 2002 hard drive tests). How can this be??? The only thing I could think of is that since technically this is run on a scsi card (right??) and I didn't press "F6" when starting the windows install to install the 3rd party raid / scsi drivers. (For the record, I'm not running a raid setup, just one drive with one partician.) Would that have fixed the problem? Should I reinstall windows that way? If so, where can I get the scsi drivers? Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks in advance! have fun, dave |

Hi. I am in the process of reinstalling the original software on the hard drive. I am not using the RAID feature either. The RAID drivers are on a floppy drive that came with the notebook - should say "RAID DRIVERS" on the label. I am also curious as to whether the drivers are needed if RAID is not in effect.
Have you set the jumpers on the motherboard for ATA and out of the RAID mode? I reset them for the ATA mode before reinstalling the software but don't know if that would make a difference. |

I didn't benchmark the previous version. However, the drive worked very well with music software (hard-disk recording type) that really taxes the drive.
Do you have benchmark programs I could use to check this system, or know where I can get them? I'll test it out and let you know when I can get them. |

I just loaded the Sissoft sandra set of diagnostics. The 60gb, 7200 drive I have produces about 9 ms access time, and 32 MB/s drive index. This seems pretty good
