Thanks to the folks who sent me the BIOS, as since the upgrade the video playback issue is gone
![]() Thanks Warden for sending the Win98 disk, I keep a Dos 6.1 clean boot disk around for bios updates, so I didn't need it, but wanted to acknowledge anyway. --W |

I have no floppy drive, so am trying to make bootcd. So as suggested I tried the cdxpburner program, it didn't work out, it created a non pure Dos boot image and the BIOS program complained of memory managers running.
Then I tried NERO, made a bootdisk on an old laptop using the included DR-DOS image that someone swore worked on everything. I added the BIOS files on NERO, then inserted the bootable floppy (DR-DOS one) when Nero asked me to. It made the disk, but when I booted from it all I got was an A:/ prompt. With only a command.com, and no other files. Out of desparation I tried to remove the old floppy drive from my old laptop and put it in the 5680. I tried everything short of welding, it wouldn't fit. No matter what I do I can't make a pure bootable CD with the new BIOS on it. Could someone make a boot image (.img) or .iso that works and mail it to me? Thank you. Try the "Phoenix Flash" program that someone else posted (just use the forum search, it'll come up). It allows you to to a BIOS backup and flash directly from Windows. It's how I flashed mine last night.

Hmmm...took my own advice and couldn't find it again, so I put it online myself: http://www.sufficiently-advanced.net/420wphlash.exe
Download it, run it to install, then use the tool to backup and flash your BIOS directly from windows. Worked a treat last night with my 5680 and the 10s BIOS.

Thanks MCL, but I worked it out the hard way.
For anyone who cares: 1. Download the custom win98se bootdisk from bootdisk.com (under the bootdisks link) 2. Use another computer with a floppy and run the above .exe and make a boot disk. 3. Now delete all files on the newly made floppy, except msdos.sys io.sys and command.com. 4. Extract the bios zip into the floppy. 5. Open NERO on the computer with floppy (and cd burner). Use Nero express, select bootable cd. Add the contents of the floppy, on the next screen where it says to select your boot floppy, select the same floppy. Burn the cd. The annoying beeps in the BIOS flah program are normal. It worked! PPS: Standard Cat 4.10 modded with patje's didn't install automatically on mine, had to do the old update driver trick with the .inf file from hardware device manager. Thanks a million TED! PPS: Realised the new Omega's based on 8.07 are much much faster in CS:Source online play. Last edited by Gold; 10-16-2004 at 08:35 PM. |

you dont need to use a w98 startup disk, btw.
under xp: insert blank floppy, right click a: in my computer, choose format, then check "create msdos startup disk". change your folder view properties to show protected system files, and then delete everything but the io.sys, msdos.sys, and command.com |
