Laptop freezes 3-5 times a day, cant figure out solution

Hey guys,
Need some of your expertize. I have 5660, Winxp, SP2. From time to time (from few times a day to few times an hour) my laptop freezes. Screen freezes, keyboard doesnt work, mouse neither. It can happen when i use laptop, or it can freeze if some applications only running in background. CPU is not overheating. When i restart laptop with power button, then vent goes crazy for 30 secs or so..

What is going on with my babe?

Laptop Problems

Hi,

if the problem lies in the Software (which is much less expensive than otherwise) it's probably caused by incompatibilities between SP2 and another driver/application on your computer (as of now SP2 is not compatible with 150-200 applications from known software manufacturers). Disable all of SP2's security features (the firewall is no good anyway, replace it with Zone Alarm). On my notebook there were also some issues with Kerio personal firewall and SP2. Never have two firewalls running at the same time. Get rid of logitech's drivers and applications - they mess up the suspend mode on any system and I never install them (once they have been installed it might be too late, though).

Also try installing other graphics drivers. My Acer used to crash in games until I installed the Omega drivers for my Radeon 9700 M11. Now everything is fine.
Anyway, good luck.

P.S. Regarding the van going off, it always does that when starting up (just to be safe). Usually its not supposed to last for 30secs, though.

P.P.S. My PC did the crashing thing once; I got rid of it by taking out all the components and cleaning them. It never crashed since. (I realize this might be difficult with a notebook )

I've seen similar problems with the Graphics card acting up, you may update you GPU drivers if you haven't already. Also, you said mouse, are you talking about a USB mouse and keyboard, does the touchpad and laptop keyboard still work???

You could also download mobmeter, search this site, to see what your temperatures are doing.
