What modem is it you speak of? Do you mean the phone modem? I take it you don't mean the RealTek LAN adapter driver.

Correct ... I refer to the modem as the SmartLink 56K Modem. I usually refer to the LAN adapter as a NIC.

Updated - 05/09/05

WLan:
This archive contains device driver version 9.0.2.31 and Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software version 9.0.2.1.

Issues resolved in this release:

Improved connection and roaming stability
Intermittent disconnection from access point

Audio
A3.76
1. For special customize settings.
2. Fix pop noise for ATI chipsets.
3. Fix recording noise when below 48K samplerate.
4. Fix C3 state issue for ATI chipsets.
5. For ALI 1689 chipsets can't record continue after power resume.
6. Make driver package to be 8.3 format.
7. Setup Package-Delete older inf file ( alcxwdm?.inf ) for updating driver.
8. Setup Package-General inf file name change to "Alcxau.inf" .

I've been away from civilization for two months so i'm sorry for the late update! but how are the vga drivers? does the catalyst 5.8 improves our 3790? I'm going to try the DNA-ATi 4.2.5.8 as soon as i can! if anyone as already test it post the results

Thanks!

EDIT:
For the wireless drivers, do you uninstall and then reinstall.. or install on top of the existing drivers. Does it update smoothly that way? Thanks

well... i don't use the intel PROSet utility, so, i decompress the file, then i run only the SetupWLD.EXE on the Drivers folder (you can also do a manual update of the driver via control panel). no previous uninstall and smooth process

What DO you use? The Windows WLAN manager? In the beginning I wasn't much of a fan for the ProSET Wireless software, but it really grew on me. I think it's perfect today and love to use it. It makes a lot of sense and is more intuitive than the Windows WLAN manager to me
Anyway, seems like Intel redid their readme/release notes and the setup program slightly, because everything has become a little more clear and a little more pretty. It is now how it should have been a long time ago. The readme and the setup program both say that the latest installer will detect older versions of the driver/ProSET software and will update these. If no older versions are found, it's just a regular setup, obviously. And it worked EXACTLY like that, with no problems at all.

I ask myself as well.. where did they all go? We were like a sworn-in brotherhood about a year ago when everyone was awaiting their NP3790's, drooling. Now everyone's gone with the wind it seems.. I still have mine, for one, and I'm still as happy as ever with it. Its speakers are about the worst I've ever seen on any notebook to date, but everything else is sweet. I still love the screen, though after seeing a newer Dell model and just how white its white is due to awesome brightness, it made the NP3790's screen pale in comparison.. but hey, but in terms of resolution and components inside the lappy, my maxed out NP3790 is hard to beat, even today

As for your question.. I wouldn't know. Haven't played a game on this thing in ages. If anything is really, really showing its age in this lappy, it's the GFX card. The Mobility 9700 is almost antique today and doesn't perform all that great anymore either.. but it still amazes me what it's able to pull off. HL2 was very playable for me back when it came out and I spent many hours in the magically beautiful HL2 with relatively smooth gameplay with all settings pretty much maxed out . Chronicles of Riddick, also a very GFX intensive game, runs even smoother, which is amazing because it looks equally as good as HL2 but has even more bells and whistles to it.. so while it's not super smooth, I'm still impressed.

I just use whatever the latest Omega drivers are and that works great . It seems Unian drivers have died as there hasn't been a new release in ages..

It's awesome to know this thread's still alive. It's extremely useful. Keep the updates coming and THANK YOU.

Wow ... I'm surprised that this thread is still here. I went over to the head-fi.org forums since I started getting into headphones and FLAC and stuff. It's been a while since I've been on notebookforums. Guess there's nothing of interest for me here besides this thread.
