I have been encountring the same problem with with the Teac DVD-CDRW drive on my 8886. Do you think it's realted to SP2? I have to admit that I have not had this problem prior to upgrading to SP2.

Any help is appreciated.

SP2 sucks. I ran into loads of problems with it (though saying that, I don't recall any with the ODD). I'm interested in the results of this thread too - there must be a fix out there somewhere... You tried contacting Toshiba?

I am having the same problem with SP2. Since SP2 was installed, I am unable to use WinXP to burn CDs. I have seen messages all over the internet from people with the SD-R6112 drive. Nobody can get an answer from Toshiba.

Avoid SP2. You have been infected with the potentially fatal Microsoft virus...
