Half-Life 2 on 4760?

Has anyone tried running Half-Life 2 on their 4760 with our meager 64MB of Video memory? If so, how playable is it? What drivers did you use? What resolution do you run at and what frame-rate do you get?

Questions, questions

I am wondering if I should even bother trying, or if I should just wait until I upgrade to the 9860...

PM me this weekend and I will let you know
have the game loaded on my 4760 but have not tried it yet

Have played Doom 3 and it worked very well for me, used the ATI driver hack from the Dell folks on this board and updated my ATI drivers using the new ATI catalyst drivers. Doom 3 played well for me

pcbunker: If doom3 works well, HL2 will play better

Kaleva: You should be able to play perfecty fine as long as u use hacked catalyst drivers (5.1 recommended). The HL2 engine was tweaked for ati radeon cards and its detect mechanisms seem to set things to better defaults than most other games I'v played.

Don't expect to run at 1440*900 but you should be able to get decently playable 800*600 or even 1024 out of it depending on how many graphical toys u turn on.

Have fun

Hi:

To get the standard ATI Catalyst Drivers to work on the 4760 do the following:

1. Follow this link and read the install directions:

http://www.driverheaven.net/patje/

2. Go to the ATI site and download the latest Catalyst drivers

3. Play the game :P

I'm sorry that I have not responded sooner. I have been extremely overloaded at work since I came back home from Vietnam at the end of January 2005.

Before I installed the mod tool on my 4760 when I started to play HL2 you could see the characters in the train and the background surrounding the train, BUT you could NOT see the insde of the train. Doom 3 just plain did not play even in low res mode.

Did the download and both games play just fine IMHO. Ran Doom3 in full 1400*900 and played it in high resolution mode with no problems. I played Doom3 and finished it while I was in Vietnam. It was the highligh of my trip over there....lol

I have loaded HL2 and ran the game up to the cut scene where the main character excapes from the train station. Work has been keeping me from either playing the game or being on the forums. If you see the time of my post you will understand.

Let me know if this gives you some help.

PS Kav I tried to email u back but it was a NO GO on my end. Sorry if it seemed like I forgot about you.

Good Luck

Tim
