Our admins take the best and most objective laptop reviews and index them here to create a distinct selection of quality reviews with averaged overall ratings. Many of these reviews have benchmarks attached to them which allows for users to compare their laptop's performance with others, and ultimately enables us to provide a sortable list which at a glance show the fastest laptops amongst a variety of applications (gaming, video editing, web browsing, etc...). I think I can do that. I bought an extra battery, so I can probably get a couple done today. I probably won't get Internet browsing done for a day or so as I don't know if I have several hours for that. I might get a good UT2004 Demo test

You could use this little utility to help with some of the battery testing:

With the release of the new Centrino chipset and the increased FSB and other "goodies" is it still a good idea to purchase the uniwill?

I have been on the fence about purchasing this or another notebook for months now. Next week, Intel released the Centrino 2 and this notebook will not support the new features.

So...

1) Is this a good purchase still?
2) Will Uniwill release a model with the new pentium m chipset? When?
3) Any news on AMD's alternative to the Pentium M?

I am looking for something that is portable, powerful, and has a widescreen WSXGA+ display. Are there other options I am overlooking?

I just got mine today. Everything's perfect. It's very sleek looking, very light, and the screen is absolutely amazing. I have to compliment Uniwill on making it so quiet and GREAT looking. The sound is on par with other laptops, which is sub-par when comparing it to anything else. So far I've only played a game of Warcraft III on it and it ran perfectly. I'll be trying WoW and maybe Half-Life 2 later. As for the battery life, I can't say much yet. It does last exceptionally long, but I haven't timed it. The keyboard is very intuitive and there's no weird placement of buttons. It's very thin, light, and, let me emphasize this again, VERY GOOD LOOKING.

Hey Jackson, thanks for the great information on the Uniwill laptop. I have some questions for you:

1.) Which reseller did you purchase the notebook from?
2.) What do you think about the touchpad?
2.) Could you post some pictures?

Again, thanks for your input. I am considering selling my current laptop and getting this laptop myself.

I bought my laptop from IBUYPOWER, who I've heard mixed reviews about. I found that their shipping was extremely slow (it took about three weeks for me to actually get this thing!), but they put it together perfectly. It was also a pleasent surprise to find out that their "Major Brand" of RAM has latency timings of 2-3-3-7, which is great.
I've never had a laptop before, so I can't be very picky about anything here. The touchpad feels, looks, and controls really well, I think. The scroll bar on the side is very useful, and the pad itself is customizable.
I don't have a digital camera myself, but I could try and borrow a friend's to take pictures. This probably won't happen, but don't be concerned about looks, because this thing looks absolutely perfect.

After a day of messing around with this computer I've found that it's very quiet. The fan comes on during intense gaming, but even that isn't loud enough to be noticeable over the sounds of the games. I still haven't tested the battery life.

I am sure almost anything will look better than my Sager 8890.

Thanks for the response.

Like Jackson, I have mixed reviews of ibuypower. Their price was competitve, but they took almost three weeks to get me this laptop. In the mean time, they entered two orders instead of one, insisted they couldn't charge our card because the shipping address wasn't on the account when they infact had charged the card and the bank had transferred them the money, and then forgot to put the zip code on the shipping form so I had to call FedEx and get it fixed. Plus the badge they put on the case is super-ultra-cheesy. But I see no dead pixels and the machine is running great. I just got it today so I haven't had time to really evaluate it, but when I have I'll post more.

Edit: Fortunately, the cheesedeluxe badge had a crappy glue job.
