I can't believe we users even have to deal with something like this. I work with laptops from like 8 years ago and they don't have LCD issues like this. It's sad, and it's a sign of cheap parts or shitty design. Absolutely pathetic that it's also anything but a isolated problem. I wonder just how many people have the problem and don't notice it or ignore it.
I have no knowledge of how to find replacement inverters. I am not overly excitied about the prospect of frying the whole system by guessing which ones are compatible either..... would be nice if we had a way to get exact replacement parts for a semi-reasonable price. I'm not sure how you wouldn't notice screen flicker....

Hold down FN and flick F7 and F8 alternately very quickly. Tell us if that is annoying enough to strangle kittens! It's a shame since i love this machine for its spec's. What's pathetic is that i am keying this on a toshiba that cost half as much, and just feels like it has so much more "quality". How many laptop users would tolerate with: Cracked hinges No bios support until 10 months later Flickering screens USB issues (some of you don't know you have this one yet) etc... All I know is that my warranty is up in 2 months..and I'm sure that Emachines won't make good on the flickering problem when it comes back. PDASG hasnt written in a while? Wonder if he is still flicker free?

Yes..I am still flicker-free, and now that I am writing it, probably the flicker will make a grand entrance first thing tomorrow... but I am still enjoying a steady screen, and all I did was to push those three silver wires as deep down as possible. Probably I did something else without even knowing it, which actually took care of the problem. But, as far as I rememebr, I never touched the left wire.
As someone suggested, I too think that someone should let emachine know about all the findings that we have had reported here and let them take care of the problem. At least we have, I guess, identified that its not the LCD itself but the area around the top-cover that is causing the problem. I guess, Emachine (or Arima) designers are better equipped to work from there. As for warranty expiring in a few months, thats just too bad. My warranty is also going to expire in 15 days or so. But, effectively for me, it had already expired a few months ago when I had to send the laptop twice to get two RAMs changed, one at a time. At that time I decided that I was not going to take part in this insanity anymore. When (not 'if') something goes wrong again, I will probably just sell it in ebay and buy a new one.... Gateway 7422X maybe???? Yaah right... ![]() |

Also, I should mention that I don't play games and I have only 512MB RAM. So, my laptop never becomes hot. If heat is the issue than probably thats why I am not getting flicker anymore. Assuming, there are several factors contributing to flicker, probably my flicker was being caused by pinched cables only, which was taken care of when I moved them away from the top cover. I thought this, because when I started to open my laptop to look for a possible loose connection, it seemed to me that the top cover was not seating properly in its place but was being forced there by tightening the screws from the bottom (Its anybody's guess who was responsible for that, as I never opened my laptop before that, but I did RMA it 5 times).
So, is it even remotely possible that for most of you, the flicker is caused by RAM??? May be the heat generated by the 1 or 2GB of RAM, or it has something to do with the Outpost brand...If I recall correctly, Thunder PC also reported having no flicker and he too has only 512MB RAM. Anyway, that was just a layman talking. I have no technical expertise on computer hardware. So, just ignore it if it sounds too stupid. Time to go back to Seismic Engineering..... no.. sleep first...yawn.. |

You get an additional 90 days on your warranty anytime it is worked on. Now this only applies to the items that were worked on. I bought my refurbed M6805 in Aug 2004. My warranty was for 90 days. That means my warranty went out in November. I sent my laptop in to get a new keyboard that I broke and payed a little fee. But hey! They fixed all of my problems and also a few more. So when I got my laptop back it had an additional 90 days! So now I am still working with that extension. When I send it in again...another 90 days! This is all fine and dandy and I have been very happy with emachines service. Gotta give credit to their support system for fixing my problems..but this has gotta end somewhere. I need my laptop for school. Now just imagine if I need this for something more important like a job. ![]()

Besides, If there was heat damage I would expect more permanent results and not random flickering. I am pulling at straws here...but I wouldn't doubt it that this motherboard is a POS.

My 7405gx with 2GB is fine, but my stock emachines 6811 is not fine. It has nothing to do with the ram.

I just had a thought, could it be climate related? Compman, Mobile_Hackbox, and I all live in colder areas, has anyone else left their notebook in their car long enough for it to get cold and then turned it on without letting it get back to room temp on it's own?

Jarring, or agressive movement might be- but I doubt it. Since mine has stayed stationary as a DTR- the flicker hasn't been an issue. I dont even touch the machine anymore since I use a remote keyboard and mouse.

oh yeah, moving the screen up and down sometimes stops the flicker for me, like if I shut the lid all the way then open it again. just fixed it for now, yay

Yes, playing with the brightness a bit does help. That is why I think it is the inverter.
