Questions about manufacturing

Anyone send some light on this for me.

There are a lot of companies selling laptops out there and if you compare them part for part, they are essentially the same computers. Companies like sager, alienware and voodoo have some computers in their lines which seem to be identical laptops with the exception of badges on the casing or a paint job.

I understand that many of these companies are probably using the same suppliers overseas. Question I have is and lets take the 3 companies I mentioned - is there any step in the assembly process (excuding the painting or anything they might do to "brand" their laptops) that each company may use before it reaches the consumer.

thanks.

Short of fancy decals, designer lids, and paint jobs these laptops are all the same. If you are wondering what exactly comes from the manufacturer, try checking their site, www.clevo.com.tw (Clevo is the ODM of many of the laptops carried by the above mentioned companies). What you want to look at when you decide whom to buy from is options offered and quality of service. Pricing can also be a key factor for some if on a budget.

With the three companies you mentioned, there is little to no difference in assembly.

Some companies have been noted to have weaker assembly processes/checks in place (e.g. ibuypower and cyberpower, if you read their reviews at resellerratings.com you will find that they often send out systems without everything connected properly).

Aside from those two exceptions, you'll get pretty much the same product quality from PCTorque, Alienware, Voodoo, FalconNW, discountlaptops, powernotebooks, etc.

Just ask around about specific resellers or go to resellerratings.com.

Other things to consider: Dead-pixel policy, return policy, warranty coverage, and price.
