Question External Storage Device for an Alienware Machine

(Hoping that it's okay to keep this general post in the Alienware forums.)

I finally have a system on the way! I was going to buy an external drive with my system via Alienware, but decided to wait and get a better price elsewhere.

PC Mag is a publication I trust dearly, and they recently reviewed a slew of external hard drives. (Look for the table of contents on the right).

I want to know what other Alienware/Falcon users have used as far as external hard drives are concerned. Do you guys have recommendations?

My required spec: Must be 250 GB or above!

Thanks!

Bruce

I have the Lacie Big Dick 500 gig. The drive is great for back up but too large for casual transport. I bought an 80 gig firelite drive for my laptop which really kicks ass.

I also bought two Ez Bus Enclosures from Apricorn in which I will mount two 300 gig SATA drives. I was going to install the drives internally in my ALX SLI rig, but I do not want to mess up the beatiful work the ALX craftmen did. I am not sure if I will use the external SATA connectors or if I will connect via Firewire or USB 2 (the enclosures allow you to do any of these connections).

So you'd recommend it then, DB? (The LaCie).

How do you think it would fare with a 7700?
I don't think I mentioned that I want to use this drive with both my (soon to arrive) 7700 and my current desktop.

Thanks!

I'm looking now at apricorn's external solutions. I like that they support USB 2.0.

Thoughts?

The LaCie is great for Desktop or Laptop (I have a firewire 800 card for my laptop) as long as you don't travel with the HD.
